http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/general-sports-forum/10936-official-rugby-thread-334.htmlI know its a cricket forum but.......One of the most underdog sporting results in a long time.
lol thanks, didnt know there was one.
Watching JP bat when he was younger he was very good against spin. Used his feet intelligently and then it all fell apart at some moment and mentally it seemed to stick. The same is happening now with Elgar who I always thought was positive and good against spin. The modern game with DRS has really made the orthodox finger spinner such a big threat with the natual varaition or if you purposefully under-cut the ball.JP playing the way he did in SL all the way through the WC really makes our batting look more settled. Imo it's always been a mental thing with him except the problems with the offies. Hope he can keep it up.
But that's why he got to 30 so often without us realising it. Instead of smashing boundaries he was a master at picking up ones and twos (and sometimes turning ones into twos), which isn't quite as noticeable.Ok, he didn't do it like this all the time
Exactly right. He had the nous and skill to do that mixed in with boundary hitting. He must be up there ODI teams for his all round contribution. But that's why he got to 30 so often without us realising it. Instead of smashing boundaries he was a master at picking up ones and twos (and sometimes turning ones into twos), which isn't quite as noticeable.
The thing that worries me a little is that they're going to try to not go for surgery as that would rule him out of the World Cup. But he hasn't played an ODI for such a long time that there's no way of knowing what he'll be like in that format, and he's still so valuable for us in test matches that I'd rather they ensure that he can still play those for as long as possible, even if it means missing the World Cup.Vern got an ankle injury. Back in November or so.

Happy about that.Amla and Faf withdrawn from ODI squad. Elgar comes in.
Maharaj released to play for Dolphins in 4-day comp starting tomorrow.
I did notice that too.Fun fact: if Steyn plays all test matches in the lead up to the 19/20 home series v England, his 100th match will be the 4th and final test of the series
Bit of speculation, but if he keeps himself fit and in good form, maybe a fitting time to retire?
