Happy that we're looking forward and getting guys like Pant, Shaw and Vihari in and around the Test side.

Rahul, Dhawan, Rahane and Pujara are very fortunate to have scored runs (and in Rahul's case took a whole bunch of catches) when they did else they'd be out for at least one of the new guys.

If Vijay doesn't play the four day games against Aus A then I think it's fair to say his career is probably done and dusted.

Would love India to win the next test - don't think there's been a 5th match with both teams having won 2 for a very long time.

Bumrah has had a great start to his test career, partly because he only played outside subcontinent so far. Makes me wonder if a number of bowlers from India's past would have turned out much better if they consistently got opportunities to play in favorable conditions rather than only occasionally.

It's not just because it's been outside India, the wickets both these last tours have been especially seamer friendly

I think that's the point, barring Oz where the wickets have been generally flat since at least 2001, our bowlers never consistently had these kinds of surfaces to bowl on. Think of it as Warne's tours to India, as compared to Lyon or SoK.

Bumrah's style of bowling, as it stands, also needs the sort of deck that sorta dig in, if you know what I mean. Fast bouncy but even pitches, I'm thinking 'Gabba, WACA, etc. think he'll struggle a bit.

He'll be a real handful if he can develop the one that holds its line to the right hander. With that action and the decent pace he generates, I think he'll do OK. I only wish we get to see more of his yorker while bowling to the tail.

It's an angle that batsmen haven't had to deal with regularly since Ntini, or Courtney Walsh. I think he'll be fine as (when I've watched him) he doesn't tend to leak too many runs when he's not looking at his most threatening. That's always been the issue with some of his compatriots especially in Australia.

Ouch. James Vince recalled for England. Dire times ahead for them.
Been made clear that Vince has been selected primarily cover if Bairstow's finger prevents him from batting.

He has scored runs well in the CC - I've not seen him bat myself but can anyone confirm if he has altered his game to prevent hitting it directly to the slips? If so he deserves his chance.

I suppose Vince's selection does at least come at the best possible time to give him a chance of success: test at his home ground & coming off a 50 & a ton in his last FC outing.

Does mean we're probably stuck with Jennings opening, unless Ed gets properly funkeh and moves Mo up there.

I think with the assumption that Bairstow would miss, just the one change makes sense TBH. All set for Burns to get a Trott-esque call up in the fifth Test of the series to establish himself.

England need some solidarity in the top order, so they call up James Vince. I supposed with Bairstow it's a like for like replacement. I just think it's a shoe in to see who can play the most booming drives.
