I'm sure that he would have received very good (and very expensive) legal advice about what would be best course of action for him.Think Smith should have appealed against the full domedtic ban. Would be a boon for the SS to have him playing.
I think people overplayed Smith's role in the pay dispute; while he took the ACA line he wasn't that public about it and actually took quite a while to say anything about it on his own. It was Warner, Starc and the domestic/female players who were vocal about it, although Warner got most of the attention.I'm sure that he would have received very good (and very expensive) legal advice about what would be best course of action for him.
Distancing himself from the ACA might actually be a good idea; the mandarins at CA may now look upon his case in a more favourable light.
If Smith and Warner were allowed to play for NSW their selectors would probably compensate by picking 7 bowlersThat would be New South Wales winning your Shield if Smith and Warner were allowed to play domestic. The boards have reciprocal agreements apparently but if the domestic ban was rescinded they could play county cricket also.
NSW would find a way to stuff it up. Them playing a full SS season would be good for NSW and the other teams who would get to test themselves against our 2 best bats. Maybe there an argument about bad optics but I don't care. That would be New South Wales winning your Shield if Smith and Warner were allowed to play domestic. Actually the view of the British media was that, whilst in was perfectly within the Laws and regulations it was not really the done thing. There were immediate suggestions from within English cricketing circles that it shouldn't happen.I remember Brearley putting all 10 fielders including the keeper on the boundary in an ODI vs the Windies in the Australian summer of 79/80. Masterful captaincy and well within the rules was the consensus of the Pommy commentators and pundits at the time.
It'd certainly be one of the few times you might actually see a crowd at a Shield game if it's the only chance you'll get to watch them.NSW would find a way to stuff it up. Must be more to it than that as the response from De Kock is way out of orderReading the above evaporated any sympathy for the Australians, in particular, Warner.
I think there is is a fair chance that these sanctions would be reduced. The issues that I have with the suspensions are that they are banned from playing at all (sorry but grade is no better than nets for these guys)
If they had simply left it to 5 tests plus stripping of leadership roles (and maybe chuck in some odis), I dont think that anyone could have cause for complaint
