***Official*** England in New Zealand 2018

Don't know why these commentators are surprised on Curran batting so well. The guy is a great batsman that could be in the first 5 of most teams. Prob the best #9 in the world.

I'm not a huge fan of Santner in tests but this is ridiculous. He's a containing spinner (who actually has an ok average for the role he plays but admittedly hasn't shouldered a heavy burden with the ball) and a handy lower-order bat who averages mid-20s. This is a very common role in test cricket, ok spinners who can bat a bit from seam-friendly countries are dime a dozen. He isn't the "worst" anything.
He isnt a good spinner in tests. His batting is not good even at number 8 for modern day standards. Picking guptill as an opener for so long in tests was a better selection than santner in tests atm. He brings no value to the test team, total waste of space. He hasn't improved at all.

Damn it southee, poor last over. Advantage England. Need a big one from Guppy or Munro.. or both.

Not quite the score England wanted but 335 is still fantastic - it doesn't matter how good the pitch is. NZ have a weak batting lineup - it's unlikely they can chase this imo.

Absolute rubbish. Santner is comfortably the best "spinner" role we've had since the retirement of Vettori. Comfortably, no one else is even close.

Guptill and Munroe should approach this as if its a t20 and try and both get quick fire 50s before getting out. It's there best hope. Pls pls pls don't do any of the "play conservative so we can chase it all down at the end" crap that New Zealand always does.

I don't really think he's particularly good either but so far he averages 37 which fits the definition of "ok".

You can disagree that 37 should be considered "ok" but by the standards of NZ (and probably English, South African, maybe even Australia) spinners over the years it most definitely fits into that category.

His batting is not good even at number 8 for modern day standards.
He's certainly been a disappointment at number 6 but for the standards of a number 8 what he has achieved so far is pretty much average.

He brings no value to the test team, total waste of space
The problem is this assertion and the assertion that he is the worst bits and pieces player you have ever seen don't match up whatsoever with reality. Santner in tests so far has been the absolute model of "meh" for a number 8 and a spinner and you're just throwing out wild exaggerations with no basis.

Did I ever tell you guys the story about how I use Ish Sodhi's old bat (signed by Ish Sodhi) as my regular bat on Saturdays. Supposedly used in a test but I can't verify it. I mean I probably did but....I do.

Did you see the stats quiz they did with him on the cricket show a few weeks ago? He knows his stats alright - obviously just really loves cricket. I would love for him to be super successful for the Blackcaps ...
