Don't give up hope mateAt least 2006 had one great test match, Adelaide. This series has been too one-sided so far, like 2013.
I was even more of a deluded optimist back then than I am now.Why on earth would you have that? That was arguably the greatest Aust side ever
Dropping a finger spinner on the back of under performing in Australia is stupid.Think Moeen will be (should be) a selection victim of this series.
Don't get me wrong, imo a Moeen innings is as good viewing as it gets. But he's just not consistent enough in either discipline. We need to invest in the young spinners we have and get someone in we think can go on to be a Test class spinner, not a Batsmen who can bowl a bit.
Probably need to start preparing flatter wickets too because we seem to have forgotten how to play proper test cricket in tough environments.
Sure, but his batting has been woeful.Dropping a finger spinner on the back of under performing in Australia is stupid.
I think the side injury (followed by the finger injury) has affected him more than has been let on. However, doesn't excuse the fact Lyon has had him on toast thus far.Sure, but his batting has been woeful.
I probably wouldn't drop him, but hard to protest too much if he has a spell after his display here.
Has been his MO for 5 or so years tbh. He's got a much lower ER than every other quick around in the last 4-5 years.Anderson has at least been hard to score off though.
I wouldn't drop him at the moment but he could well be out early in the summer. Side injury meant he missed too much preseries cricket and the cut on the finger hasn't really helped. His figures aren't that dissimilar to Swann's final Ashes.Moeen definitely shouldn't get dropped after the series. I don't see the point, considering England's lack of other spin options. Considering how awesome his bowling is in England, it'd be a very silly thing to do. Australia is basically the worst possible venue for his skill-set. It'd be like India dropping Jadeja for their home Tests because he got smashed in Australia and couldn't handle the bounce/short-pitched bowling while batting.
Bit disappointing that he got out so often to Lyon as opposed to the quicks, I think he's probably England's best player of spin after Root and Cook. I don't remember him struggling that much against Ashwin.
Yeah they should try it from here. MMarsh absolutely murders them.England lost this match when they decided to go soft on Mitch Marsh. He was getting sweet half-vollies. He was getting them frequently; in comparison to the # of short balls.
Their lost.
PhewYeah, this will go down as a **** all series for Root no matter what he does now, couldn't stand up when he needed to..
If England save this game and then somehow manage to win this next two, in which he scores a buttload of runs, that'd still be doing it when he needed to, tbf.
Obviously a real long shot at this point though, yeah.
Yeah Australia way too good for us in their own conditions and congrats to them. Can't help thinking that they put up a much better fight when they come here than we do over there though.Well done Australia, too good for us. I have no doubt though that if these same sides were playing in England next summer England would win and instead of a lack of pace we would be discussing lack of Aussie ability to play the moving ball.
They would and usually do but we would win.Yeah Australia way too good for us in their own conditions and congrats to them. Can't help thinking that they put up a much better fight when they come here than we do over there though.
