This type of pitch is not the standard ODI pitch anywhere in the world, there's absolutely no reason to select the team with these in mind.

Dhoni had a very average 2016 averaging 27 and SR of 80. But on either side of it he has done well. In 2015 he averaged 47 at SR of 87. In 2017 he averaged 65 at SR of 84. Nothing to scoff at. His hitting ability is demonstrably inferior to his yesteryears but he will still be a handy #4. I don't know how many teams have better #4 candidates. Don't know why India insists on playing him at 6 or 7.

Yeah, absolutely. You would probably replace Dhawan with Rahane with that in mind. But even a country by country breakup shows Dhawan has raked up vastly better numbers than Rahane.
