I have no doubt that Smith is the best batsman in the world, but ‘all-conditions’ is a stretch, no?
Not really. Succeeded everywhere really. Only places he doesn't have a great record is England and Bangladesh.

Brisbane crowd did well today. Really got behind Smith and the chin music bowling at the end. This is especially impressive considering the current crocodile crisis in Northern Queensland, which as I understand, has gripped the state with fear.

Fair play to them.

I'd say he's succeeded everywhere but not in "all conditions". Not quite the same player on a seamer, but still all right.

He's probably still the best in all conditions anyway because in literally any other conditions he's basically Bradman atm.

Is there a player that scores heavily on seamers?.

It's absolutely ridiculous to criticize Smith atm

Literally the only answer opposing teams have to him is to doctor wickets or stack one side of the field (a tactic that never gets him out)

I dont particularly like watching him bat but he may well become the 2nd best batsman in history

I think Root has often showed he call play well in swinging/seaming English conditions. Probably the best batsmen in the world on an overcast green top.

Kane Williamson? Only one I can think of.

And, obviously, Joe Root, given his performances in the previous Ashes and the tour of SA.

Yeah this.

Was curious about his record in England, can see he definitely struggles more on those wicked Birmingham flyers. An average of low 40's is still reasonable but 3 tons in 12 Tests is a rate roughly on par with any visiting bat not named Bradman. That said, they've come on the more Aussie-style grounds but if he finds a way through to score elsewhere, bloke'll turn a series.

This. To be honest he makes Steve Waugh look stylish but it works for him and is so bloody effective it is unreal.

I dont get it, watching Smith is so good, he is not another batsman who looks like the other 5,000 batsmen, he does strange things and is different, breath of fresh air for me.

His shotmaking is pretty hard to love unless he goes absolutely mental (which he does, and it's kind of glorious because he starts to play shots which you didn't realise were actually possible) but the way he constructs innings in general is really, really satisfying to watch.

EDIT: Which I guess is a way of saying that it's enjoyable to watch someone who knows how to score oodles of runs.
