Road to the 2017-18 Ashes in Australia

This is the one and only area England are infinitely superior to Australia, wicket-keeping. Even besides Bairstow we still have Foakes and Butler waiting in the wings. Yip, the Poms will be hoping Wade to drop some howlers.

AB Field is a cracker of a ground too. Lanning out for Australia is a huge loss.

Sky must be delirious having lost out this Australian deal to BT Sport. No women's Ashes featuring England fresh from their celebrated world cup campaign; no Bish Bash Bosh and most important of all: no (men's) Ashes. They'll fill their cricket channel out with documentaries and Ashes 2005 highlights mark my words. They have just recently demarcated their channels by sport also, so they cannot very well stuff a load of football on their new 'cricket' channel.

I would say England still leads in the allrounder area even without Stokes. Both Moeen and Woakes I think are better skilled in both departments than the Aussies who are primarily strong in one skill and decent in the other.

Woakes is decent at both but he's far from top quality, the 'all-rounder' tag gets quite a bit overplayed in the UK, but they also like mocking 'bits and pieces cricketers', I'm pretty sure Woakes has been just that for the majority of his career bar some success against the likes of the mighty Glamorgan.

Glamorgan? Woakes has played the majority of his career in division one: Warwickshire have been in division one since 2009 while Glamorgan have been ensconced in division two since 2006, although ironically Warwickshire were relegated this year so will now be playing in division two for 2018, facing Glamorgan. Warwickshire are also in the 'north' group for the limited overs competitions which basically precludes them from playing Glamorgan unless both teams progress to the knock-out stages.

The interview's a fairly considered piece. Can't believe he's 35 btw.
All he actually said is you can't completely write off a side in a two horse race, which isn't exactly a vote of confidence in our boys.
And he was being interviewed on one of our radio stations, so he was probably being polite anyway.
He's actually one of the most startlingly softly-spoken and polite cricketers in the world off-field tbf.

David Warner is a complete idiot. He comes out with these statements that he hopes grabs him a bit of attention as a tough 'little/tiny' cricketer and a guy that speaks his mind and tries to intimidate (well, as much as a guy like that can) then when questioned about it doesn't have the courage to stand by the comments he's made! If you always end up apologising for what you say, engage your tiny little brain prior to addressing the public with utter nonsense and small man syndrome!!
