I dont know what is so special about Bird? I remember people last year were acting as if he's Waqar Younis or Malcolm Marshall when he was dropped but when he got selected,He bowled slower than Collingwood's 65mph thunderbolts
no one did this

Nothing extraordinary special but a good bowler. Would make it in to many sides.

Bird is a superstar. He's probably ahead of Waqar, Steyn, Pollock etc. in terms of ability, maybe even McGrath too. He's just unlucky to be playing in this time for Australia. Would have had 600 Test wickets by now if he was from any other country,

Bird is like a fractionally slower Hazlewood. He's going to be fodder on flat subcontinent wickets but in anything with a bit in it he's a gun.

Unlucky to be in an era where he's 5th in line. Would be in England's attack easily and would open for any side not named South Africa.

Just before I call you an idiot can you clarify if this is a "joke" or not??

Actually I was forgetting the New Zealand attack. He might be bowling first change for them. He's better than any Englishman not named Anderson on current form. And outside Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and England nobody else has any fast bowlers of note right now.

No he's not, and what current form are you talking about......bloke hasn't played a test in 9 months.

Regardless of who's better than who, Australia could do a lot worse than have him in the attack in the Ashes. The guy should have played a lot more than he has.

FFS, TRJ is a big blow. Despite what the 'experts' say who are queuing up to tell us how useless he'll be in Australia despite having solid enough pace and good height.
Agree with this. What I like about Roland-Jones from admittedly limited viewing so far is that he bowls lots of cutters so he's a threat for your front pad but has that occasional big seamer away from the bat against both lefties and righties. Would be useful anywhere in Oz. Big blow.

Better than Broad and Anderson? No way. He might be a shoe-in for the variable Woakesy/Roland-Jonesy spot but he is miles beneath Broad and Anderson's kind of level.

Whatever it takes!!!
Dont see any reason why he should be considered better than Woakes too. Maybe the Woakes who got injured and came back but then again TRJ was already better anyways. TBF, if Bird has been tearing it up in the Shield cricket, then there is no real way to know how good he will be in tests unless he actually plays some tests. So I can understand why fans who have seen him in action at Shield level might think he is a great bowler already. Should be called the Ajay Sharma effect.

I watched a bit of Bird against Pakistan last year. Thought he was alright, a solid bowler, no more, no less. When Woakes was bowling at his best, he's definitely impressed me more.

I saw Bird in an one-dayer where he was fielding in the deep and he got sledged by the Barmy Army: ''Bird Bird Bird/Birdy's the word'', and, ''who are you?''.

Bird's a few inches taller and gets more lift off the surface. Woakes is very flat and skiddy, at least when he was down here last, and might be in trouble if the ball doesn't swing. Which it won't because it's a Kookaburra.

TRJ being a dig the ball into the surface sort would seem to me to be the type who would do better over here, although maybe his economy rate says otherwise.

When's England going to produce a consistently world class genuine pace bowler again? It's been a while.
