CW's 50 Best ODI Cricketers of all time - The Countdown (2017 Version)

"I don't rate him, so he shouldn't be there."

That's the complete opposite point of the exercise, dumb dumbs. If you want to start a thread with your best ODI team, then go ahead, but this is for the people. DEMOCRACY, BABY.

Yeah, I think we need to do the sensible and unanimously take out Harvey out of this. Good player but can't be in the top 50. Everyone from 45 to 51 can move a slot up. If any of the voters can provide a proper reason, we can retain.
I disagree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so if that's what happens then suck it up.

I was surprised to see Andy Roberts make the cut. I had to look up his record when I saw that he was getting votes.

Also, 3 people voted Jonty Rhodes in 25th spot. He seems like the sort of player that people love and feel a need to throw him into their list because of the impact he had in the field.

I was one of them. Definitely deserves recognition imo. Handy batsman and his fielding and athleticism was genuinely groundbreaking and set a standard which everyone aims for today.

Don't think Harvey making the list is ridiculous at all. Voting him 2nd all time is hilarious, but hey, democracy. I'd like it if people who made oddball choices would post why though... Can lead to genuine discussion (hopefully) instead of "WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK MY FAVOURITE GARRHH"

Me mentioning Jonty at 25th was just something I had noticed, perfectly reasonable to pick him there.

Everytime we run this thing this happens. Half the people want the votes invalidated. Other half wants everyone to shut up. Neither is possible. See Donald Trump.

I had a controversial option at 5th and if he makes the list I'll give my reasons
I think this is the way it should be, If you are gonna come up with Harvey at 2, might as well explain it. Although something tells me that trolling is not a very good reason.

Ffs this is not a democratic setup. It's Nuf's thing. If he thinks something is a troll vote, he should not count it. Democracy and Trump in this thread jfc.

Obvsly Nuf thinks the Harvey vote wasn't trolling.

Wish I could remember my list.

I think I had a choice between Sanath and Gayle towards the end - took Sanath due to being worth more in the field, and he was used more with the ball. Think Gayle was under-utilised, and then has had a history of back injuries.

I was hoping to get Rhodes in, can't remember if I did or not in the end though. First guy I remember hitting a six with the reverse sweep, too.

...but I honestly can't remember a single freakish ODI performance.
Eh? What about those three consecutive sixes off Dirk Viljoen and the sensational c&b the closing overs of that match at the WACA Aus won by 1 run?

What about those 4 wickets in 8 balls to win the TVS Cup final when India had been strolling to victory?

What about that 2 run win in Jamaica when he hit 48no off 30, then took out Lara, Marlon and Smith and they gave the Man of the Match to bloody Ricky Ponting?

What about that huge six over cover off Ben Hollioake at Bristol with the match in the balance?

What about that time he opened the batting and smashed the ball everywhere when nobody else could get it off the square?

Harvs was a visionary. The master of the cameo. He was playing T20 before it was invented. Excellent inclusion and I daresay he will be joined in the 2030 list by his nephew.

Yessss. This is what I wanted. Despite watching all his career I definitely don't remember a great deal so it's good to see someone who actually rated him to talk about his good performances.

I rate Ian Harvey at around James Hopes level.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Harvey was a clever bowler with a few good variations and an underachieving batsman who should've done a lot more with his talent.

Decent player, but I fail to see why anyone would view him top 25 of all time.
