Outside of the United players brought in by Mourinho how many of the others would be starting 11 players in the top 5 clubs? DDG is the only definite one. Herrera, Mata, Rashford, Martial are maybes. So while the squad is strong compared to the whole premiership it's not as strong as some suggest.
Mourinho himself causes issues with how he wants to play and the sort of players he wants. When everyone is fit only DDG, Valencia, Bailey, Herrera, Pogba, Ibra and Rashford have spots locked down. He does change the front 6 depending on who he's playing but 2 of those front 6 spots haven't been locked down. The whole left side of defense is a revolving door of personnel. I think there's 4 spots he rotates players through without having complete confidence in any of them.
The squad has underperformed and I can see him bolstering in the summer. If the defense can be solidified then it needs less cover and the forwards have to do less covering/tracking.

Yeah I think he's done ok. He doesn't deserve a sympathetic hearing from the press or fans of other teams because he's an arsehole. But our performances have been a huge improvement on the previous 3 seasons, at least up until the last couple of weeks. Will need to improve again next season though.

Defence hasn't been an issue, pretty sure only Spurs have conceded less goals that you.
United's problem is not scoring enough, there's about a 20-25 goal dropoff from everyone else in the top 6 to United.
