Yeah agree.I hope the 'average' rule gives them some leeway and assures AB that people will be dropped for cricketing reasons. The selectors have done a good job balancing these quotas so far but this will be their toughest challenge.
I'm a big Bavuma fan but he hasn't looked good this series. We can't lose AB now. It would be ridiculous.
Just Bavuma out for AB when he's fit. Which may still happen, though apparently all official word is that it won't.How would the team look like if we didn't have qoutas?
AB in for Bavuma.... Maharaj in for Olivier/Parnell (assuming a non 4 pace attack ground) and the other out for Steyn/Morkel assuming no injury. Bavuma/de Bruyn fighting it out at FC level for the extra batting spot in the squad. How would the team look like if we didn't have qoutas?
I saw this yesterday and I thought probably so true. Almost like they read this as they released this today. You wonder if CSA talks with its employees. AB was with the team before this test, it was said before the Australian series when injured he was still in contention for the D/N test, and then it was the Sri Lanka series and now he may not fancy it anymore. Then again Abbott and Rossouw had Kolpak contracts signed, didn't tell anyone and were still playing, so I wouldn't be surprised if Morne Morkel never plays international cricket again as well. Morne's apparently had a bad back since last summer yet we haven't heard anything about the treatment he has received, and why he went from 90% fit before Perth to still not being ready come the Sri Lanka test series.
Key SA batsman AB de Villiers is expected to return to action for the Proteas during the upcoming T20 International series against Sri Lanka. The T20Is begin on Friday, with De Villiers to become available in time for the third match in Cape Town on January 25.
If De Villiers proves his fitness, he is also expected to resume his captaincy duties for the five-match One Day International series against the tourists starting on January 28.
The Proteas batsman was ruled out of action in July with an elbow injury, and will return to competitive cricket in a limited overs match for the Northerns Amateur team in Benoni on January 21.
In other good news for the Proteas, fast bowler Dale Steyn is said to be progressing well following shoulder surgery in November. Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee revealed that Steyn should be able to start rehabilitation soon. "He went for a scan about 10 days ago which showed that the fracture has healed completely.
"He has almost been given the go-ahead to start with active rehab and he can start running again. That's good news for him and for us.” Morne Morkel, meanwhile, has taken longer than expected to recover from a back strain.
"The challenge is that, from his rehab, there are still some symptoms that are there so we are going to have to reassess before making a final decision on his availability for the amateur game," Moosajee continued.
"As you know, backs can be very complicated. We need to make sure that it is symptom-free. It's more a 'wait and see' scenario with him.”
Got to ask , why ?Not a popular opinion, but I'd prefer it if AB retires from the format.
Thisara has probably bowled himself out of contention in the BBL tbh.Looking to the t20's, our selectors have sold us up the river again by leaving out Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka and probably Thisara Perera. No point having guys like pradeep and kulasekara in this format. Whilst KP didn't perform in the tests, he is more suited to the shorter form of the game IMO.I know thisara has failed in the past but he has gained more experience playing in the various world t20 leagues so we should utilise this..
It hurt seeing Smith retire relatively early but he looked shot in his last series. AB has a lot left in the tank.I don't think he'll retire but something tells me he gave them an ultimatum about qoutas and they're calling his bluff.
No he hasn't ever played t20 as far as I am aware..Will Dimuth get retained based on that final innings 50?
If the goal is to stack the side in order to get the transformation numbers up, then I suspect it might be Kuhn and Paterson missing out.SA team for Friday ?
