de Villers`s indecision started with the birth of his son, and galvanized by the quota issues during the world cup. I don`t think this is about money. I think he would happily play all formats if he thought the best team would play, regardless of colour. I get a feeling he would rather not play if he was taking somebody's (white players) chance to play for SA away who deserved it.

Didnt AB come back from IPL comlaining that they are playing too much international cricket? In a year they played like 6 test matches?... its about the money bud.

de Villiers is losing my respect pretty fast. He has an amazing IPL contract, and SA already play very few games every year. Why would he want to give up playing test match then? At times he behaves like a damn insecure kid.

South African pace bowling in South Africa has marmalised better teams than this before. Still, if someone like Bangladesh or the Windies had put up a card like that there'd be talk of not being test standard. Grim.
I've been saying Sri Lanka aren't up to standard for the past 12 months, the only results they're getting are at home, they get pasted everywhere else.

In terms of the result, predictable but disappointing at the same time from SL, jeez what a mismatch.

I was disappointed with Mendis. The talent is obvious but the shot selection was really poor throughout the series. Well done by SA for enforcing the follow on.

Indeed. If that was Alastair Cook captaining he would have chose to bat again until he had a lead of 900 runs and probably drew the match with no overs to spare. Steve Smith also would have batted on and on and on.

Yeah. He looked good while he was out there but kept giving it away. Still extremely young though.

SL getting pasted away to RSA imo is no cause for alarm, it's the new norm for touring teams. Example: Oz got pasted in SL, PAK in NZ and Oz, Eng in India, etc.

Hope he doesn't go the Chandimal way.
Meh he's still very young, I think he'll sort out his shot selection eventually. A bit of a worry he doesn't really have a strong leader to feed off, though.

Probably punishment for considering this AB to be the real AB. Wants to quit test cricket for BBL when he is already on one of the highest paying IPL contracts?
The article said he turned down a BBL contract last summer

Agree with the guy who said that Ab hasn't been the same since the 2015 world cup, they've played 8 tests without him now and are already used to life without Steyn and Ab, this was a good dress rehearsal for that. faf is leading the team well anyway but this tour has had Abbott, van zyl, viljoen, Harmer, RR all pretty much give up on international careers and also now seeing clouds hovering over Abs career.

I don't think it should be good enough to say it is ok since others countries performed badly away too. Before the series started there was no way that SL were winning this, but what positives do they take from the series? A big fat zero for the batting since no one averaged even 30. i suppose they have unearthed Kumara and Lakmal did very well, especially in the First two Tests.

Amla being dropped in the last over before lunch off Lakmal was a massive moment in the match. SL never recovered.

I agree.

I think if anyone has watched AB over the years, they can never doubt his enjoyment for the game and his commitment to the Proteas. 100 consecutive tests basically as well.

If this was about money he would not need further discussions with CSA as he was all set to come back v Sri Lanka but selection issues and wins are probably making him think his position because it would have to be for Cook who doesn't deserve the chop yet.

That WC debacle left many scars. Let us make no bones about it.
