I haven't seen him all series but off what I have seen this test he is beating the bat and troubling them

Lack of wickets doesn't mean he's bowling poorly. A couple of those catch the edge or best the inside edge and suddenly his stats look great
Not about the stats though. Kumara has been really impressive too. I'd imagine he'd have been even more effective if he'd bowled ahead of Mathews consistently and got a newer ball.

It's easy to forget many on here talked about Mathews as one of the best bats and allrounders in the world a couple of years back. It's quite astonishing how ordinary his bowling record is to even be called an allrounder, Less than half a wicket a Test match and averaging over 50.

However well he's bowling he should not be taking the new ball ahead of Pradeep/Kumara/Chameera/Lakmal. Which he has been doing all series.
Leading from the front IMO

Although serious answer I think the side just feels that Chameera Pradeep and Kumara are too young and inexperienced and could either get carried away with the swing/not find the right line and length right away and waste the new ball vs Mathews who is more accurate and experienced.

And Mathews has bowled well. I can't say I disagree with this strategy tbh

Id be upfront and rip into you but im sitting on 25 infraction points now so you'll have to be satisfied with a 8-)
Lol I noticed I received some for the first time the other day as a result of someone complaining. What does 5 mean? And how many required to get the boot?

And to make matters more complicated, Amla, Maharaj and Shamsi are Indian rather than coloured, although for transformation purposes they count as non-black players of colour.
Yeah, they count the same as a Philander or a Parnell.

Verwoerd must be looking up from hell and loving how people are still in their separate racial categories, 23 after apartheid ended.

Not that there are any at the moment (I don't think), but what would a Chinese player be counted as? From what I remember, there was a bit of inconsistency as to how they were treated during apartheid, sometimes being regarded as non-white, but other times as "honorary whites".

They were generally classified under the broad category of 'coloured' I believe. Only Japanese and Taiwanese businessmen were 'honorary whites'.

There was a court case a few years ago where a Chinese South African went to court about Chinese people not being able to benefit from BEE. The court found that Chinese do count as 'black' (as in non-white and therefore qualify for employment equity and BEE).

I have Chinese friends who would be so happy to know that in South Africa they are considered to be black. They suddenly become so much cooler

This only counts for Chinese people who lived in SA (or whose parents lived in SA) pre-1994. More recent immigrants don't count. So they aren't that cool.

Officially all Chinese were given 'honourary-white' status in 1984/5 (because of confusion between the Taiwanese Chinese originally classified as white and the SA Chinese, born in SA, which were not).

Karunaratne and Silva's stats make for some gruesome reading and you feel their place would be threatened if they were in the Zimbabwe team.. but somehow they're always there. Why can't SL try someone else FFS?

Hasn’t got the numbers but I quite like Silva. He knows how to stick around and seems to value his wicket.
