Don't forget they can only really drop Bavuma assuming there's a better coloured option to replace him, so he'll likely get a longer leash than others if he's not performing.

Rule is there have to be at least six players of colour, of which two have to be black. And there's nobody right now that is pushing for a Test place.

The only black players making runs in the franchise stuff are Zondo and Ramela and neither should ever get close to a Test cap.

Good comeback by SL here.

Alas, you feel they'll get bowled out under 100 or so in turn.

It is sort of.

That's how it works in the franchise set-up.
I was referring to this part:

The targets will not be imposed on the XI in every match they play but calculated on an average basis over the season. That means that South Africa's selectors will not be strictly bound to that combination all the time, but if there are some matches where they do not meet the targets, they will have to compensate in other games.

They could drop Bavuma for AB and still meet the overall average through ODIs and T20s, as Stefan alluded too

Hence the loading of the t20 side...

That's what average over the season needs to be not every team thought. Get the numbers right in the other formats and they can compensate for it.

Pradeep has four!

Hope he doesn't edge a streaky boundary in this test.

How often has a player finished a test with more wickets than runs? It's probably more common than I think it is.

I didn't realize they discriminate further between colours and blacks, interesting.

Yeah, I know. Let's hope sense prevails and Bavuma (on current form) drops out for AB.

But the loading of the T20 side is problematic in itself. We need to have X-number of black guys in the T20 side so that we can drop Bavuma. It's absurd.

Could you guys just load up colours and blacks in the T20 side and then choose your best Test team, or does in have to be even between the 3 forms of cricket?

Yup.

But CSA can't change the quota system, so using meaningless T20s and ODIs as a means of exposing promising you black and coloured cricketers to international cricket (and all the coaching and facilities that come with it) in order to further develop them + maintain the primacy of the Test side is actually a pretty good way to handle it if you ask me.

Yeah it's only Rabada and Bavuma who qualify in the Test side atm. Philander is considered coloured iirc.

Anyone know if the quotas are format blind? If so then it won't be a problem since Rabada and Phehlukwayo already play the short formats, and Bavuma can be slipped in as well.

We've had entire threads devolve into **** and have had multiple people bang on and on about the Quota system here on this forum, yet clearly no one actually bothered to read up how they work.

Sigh.
