*Official* Bangladesh in New Zealand 2016/2017

Yep, he's atrocious. Kyle Mills not very good either; has the occasional good point but has an awful voice to listen to. Would like to hear more from Stephen Fleming, though I doubt it's really something he'll be turning to full time.
I think Mills' sounds similar to Fleming :-) I enjoy his commentary. Chris Cairns was ok when he was in the box in late 2013. I would like them to bring back Glenn Turner to provide a more old-school curmudgeonly perspective on batting. I felt he was the best commentator in the pre-Sky days and it was simply down to personality clashes that he wasn't kept on when Sky took over.

If Sky and Radio Sport commentary were both actually live, I'd happily mute the TV and just listen to the radio. It's worth it just for Jeremy Coney.

Yeah Coney is so much better on radio than he was on TV, he's simply too expressive to be effective in TV commentary.

Someone mentioned Glenn Turner above, he had a boring voice but I loved listening to his technical expertise. Wouldn't mind him making a comeback.

I believe Turner had beef with Crowe and a ton of other NZ Cricket figures therefore was sacked from that role; I think if you were putting together a good all formats commentary line up, it'd be along the lines of Styris, Richardson, Smith, Coney, Waddle and two international guests rather than just one, although with Bangladesh you don't really have much option.

But ultimately, you could have Benaud, Aggers, Blowers, Tufnell, Hussain, Warne (when he's not with his buddies), Greig, Lawry and this would still be a ****ing dire series to watch/listen into.

s.o.s Russell Arnold
You always liked Russell, never a fan myself. Stated the bleeding obvious a bit much for my liking.

Anyone remember the great Billy Ibadulla who used to commentate NZ games in the late 80s?

Ian Smith's a quick-witted guy. It's his frothing at the mouth after Williamson does anything remotely good that's annoying, at least for me personally anyway.
He used to be tbf, in the 'umpire strikes back' days. In the last few years he's just a lazy has-been who clearly doesn't even bother to keep educated on modern cricket norms and seems to have no idea what he's talking about half the time, saying about his annoying habit of saying KW is going to ton up each time he reaches 25. He used to say the same about Vettori getting a 6 or 7fer whenever he'd take an early wicket.

His latest commentary performances in Australia for that short ODI series was one of the most cringe-worthy performances in the comm box I can remember for ages, and that was alongside the likes of Slater, Healy and Nicholas, so that's saying something.

I'm a fan of Mills in commentary, has more technical knowledge than the rest. Nathan McCullum is a deadset job for mates selection, awkward to listen too and adds nothing to the coverage.

Had to laugh yesterday when those 2 winners of the amateur commentators comp, did 3-4 overs, and to be honest, were the best of the lot! Had some inside knowledge of the players (seems like it's the first time the commentators have watched most of the players), and called well. Put Craig Cumming to shame (who is rubbish).

Fair comment about NcCullum, you'd get more articulate and smoother commentary from the old drunk loudmouth at your local tavern. He's a shocker. Perhaps I haven't heard enough of Mills, I didn't think he was much from what I heard & Harris wasn't much better.

SKY NZ should get a legend like an Akram or even a Viv Richards to commentate on our internationals like the BB did with Viv a few years back, just to get a neutral and international perspective, even if it's not their team travelling. They did with Mark Nicholas in the early 2000s when Pakistan toured once.

Billy is still alive, kicking and coaching in Dunedin at age 81.

I like it when guys recently out of domestic cricket commentate.

Early Cumming, Mills, etc. as they know something about the domestics.

So definitely prefer to listen to them for the domestic t20s that this who now have media careers.

Eg Cumming knowing how good a bat (or long a hit) someone like Jamie Fuller is when he had no batting stats to back it up, Mills recently criticising Kuggs for letting his batting talent down by aiming/dragging leg side to a temptingly short Seddon boundary etc.

I Like Mills' tactical technical insights of t20 bowling. Styris also good to listen to on t20 approaches.

Be a great guy to yarn cricket with.
I was coached by him for several years. He strangely thought I had some ability and provided me with plenty of free sessions, including a chance at bowling at a couple of Pakistani squad members when the team was touring in the mid-1990s. Unfortunately, he was wasted as a coach in team environments due to clashes with authority. But he was a genius of a coach one-on-one.

That's one word that comes to mind for me. "Complacent" is another.

Those guys were bloody excellent tbf, Sky would do well to snap them up. Especially the main guy, he called the game well and obvs being a proper cricket fan knew about certain players and how they went in stuff that wasn't shown just on TV.

I just wish SKY had an alternate commentary option and made the ACC available. Saves me having to sync it up every time. Haha.
