Didn't Kumble take an absurd amount of 5 wicket hauls in that series?
It was a superb performance since he was pretty much a one-man attack for us that series when the Aussies were smashing 500 every game and Ponting was hitting double centuries for fun. Makes you consider how good Murali must have been to do that pretty much throughout his career.

Interestingly, there's been three instances of teams posting 400+ first innings totals and going on to lose the match by an innings in the last month alone. Not sure how many times it has happened in the past.

Just caught the highlights again there. Starc's spell at the end was ****ing outstanding.

What are tailenders with batting averages under 15 supposed to do with deliveries like that?

Kumble has a great record. 3 wickets per innings and an SR of 57 is fantastic.
The one series where he really prospered was played on pitches more like Abu Dhabi that traditional Australian wickets

It was almost as if CA did something to ensure that the matches lasted more than 3 days but you'd have to be really cynical to think that

So Cartwright to debut unless the selectors have literally watched no domestic cricket whatsoever and think that Agar is better than a no. 8 in test cricket

FTR, he's not

Not to mention that O'Keefe is probably at least as good a batsman as Agar, possibly even better, on top of being a far superior bowler.

Selecting Agar ahead of O'Keefe would be the height of stupidity, even if it is a dead rubber and you're looking toward the future.

I think the theory is Agar would bat 6 as the all rounder with Lyon as the main spinner. Or Cartwright plays at 6 with Sok as the main spinner. I don't know much about Cartwright but I prefer that if these are the options.

Yeah that's what I'm referring to do. Playing Agar ahead of O'Keefe because he's the "all rounder" is dumb because O'Keefe is at least as good a batsman as him anyway

I'm not sure any of Agar/Sok/Cartwright is a test level 6 and Wade isn't a Test level 7.

Agar looks to have improved as a bowler and I think there are concerns regarding SOK's fitness

I would hope we are treating Sydney as a serious match with a view to India and not a time to get funky. Agar and Cartwright would be funky.
