Unfortunately there's no other realistic options for skipper, but there's no doubt KW's batting has suffered quite a lot since taking over the reins. He bats with so much hesitancy these days & seems to often psyche himself out. So often of late, you can feel his wicket coming.

This was my fear when Bmac retired, I always thought KW needed another year or so just concentrating on being our best batsman.
Anyone would do.

[Williamson] has looked horrible since that D/N Test at the Adelaide Oval.
But still making more runs than most of the other batsman:

Since Dec 2015:
12 tests, 1021 runs @ 53
18 ODIs, 663 runs @ 36, SR 81
10 T20s, 383 @ 47, SR 118

The only valid option is Guptill taking over in the white ball forms, but tbh it's KW's deterioration in his Test batting that's concerned me more since taking the captaincy, and there's really no other options there.

It's a shame since one of KW's greatest batting assets was that he always played with a very clear head, now he seems to have all this weight on his shoulders and it really shows.

For some, captaincy brings the best out of their batting and for others, clearly it doesn't.

Wasn't that long ago (T20 World Cup) that people were talking up KW's captaincy as ushering in a new era of ruthlessness, attention to detail and high-performance. While I agree that he's not looking great at the moment, and I also would've liked another year of McCullum, let's not forget that he's still early in his captaincy career and it can take time for new captains to settle.

Yeah, he was tactically excellent in that tournament. But even then his batting was a little below what he's capable of.

Yeah, it's not his tactics that bother me so much, although I do find he is overly defensive at times & the sooner we forget about our display with ball & in the field in Aust, the better. It's the fact I think we'd get much better value out of him as purely our premier Test batsman.

Yeah it's a bit puzzling to me - KW has captained pretty much every team he's ever played in as far as I know, and has also been the premier bat for that team as well, often with an enormous gap to the next best. Seems strange that that responsibility now appears to be weighing on him, when it never has in the past.

I suppose one different aspect could be the media duties - he doesn't seem the type to enjoy the attention, so that could be affecting him a bit.

Been plenty of All Blacks that have continued to play, pending court cases. And probably other sports. In a way he's unlucky he hadn't debuted before it. I have little doubt a current squad member would continue to be picked, but Scott is deemed a no go zone.

Is that right? I can understand why the selectors steer clear. But I think we all agree he'd 100% be there, ODIs and T20s, if not for the court case. And on the presumption of innocence, plus the fact I don't imagine it would raise a massive outcry in the media, I think I'd be picking him.
And this is why NZ Rugby has such a terrible reputation with regards to its culture.
