In Australia: 38.44
In India : 33.46
In NZ:36.27
In SA:39.92
in SL: 40.72
These would be semi-decent batting averages but they happen to be Anderson's bowling averages. Now obviously we will hear about averages are not the be all and end all etc (of course they matter when we have to talk about Root's averages somehow...!). For a bowler who has taken nearly 500 wickets that's a terrible record and shows what a piss poor bowler he has been outside of his comfort zone. An isolated performance here and there means nothing when you have career stats like that...but yeah let's not talk about it..let's talk about how India, Kohli and Ashwin are only good "in these conditions". I can't wait for Root/Anderson to tour Australia/NZ next (if Anderson doesn't get dropped like he did vs India that is).

I don't think he is a home track bully at all but he s averaging 50 in a series where Ashwin averaged 44 with the bat. Context. You gotta look beyond the numbers sometimes... He has not had a good series, definitely not what you want from your #1 batsman. Averaging 50 in this series is not as much of an achievement as it might have been in some other conditions. It is not bad but it is not really that good either, esp. considering he got the best of the batting conditions 4 of the 5 tests.

Didn't Bresnan do a lot of wicket taking that series too, or am I just recalling it wrong?
What English fans think or don't think doesn't make a difference to me, no offense@Spark. Some of these blokes rate Anderson in the same ballpark as Steyn so excuse me if I don't put too much stock in their cricketing opinions and insights.

Botham on air was quick to mention how Kohli can be an ATG only if he succeeds in England or something to that effect but this is the same bloke who keeps talking about how Root is a "batsman for all conditions" with no caveats and no mention of his record in Australia and New Zealand(the latter of which is in the same ballpark as Kohli's in England).

Spark is Aussie and no they don't. There is a difference between being world class and an ATG. Steyn is indisputably the best fast bowler of the era and Anderson, Zak etc are in the tier below.

By that logic, Kohli is the only one who's had a good series. Pujara, root, Bairstow all averaged around 50 and all had very good series by any standard.
I thought cook was seriously disappointing though... Not as though he didn't get runs, but he looked very unconvincing in most of his innings and had more than his fair share of luck.

I agree Pujara did not have a "great" series either. I said "not that good".. I dunno where you get that I said it is not good at all.
I didn't realise he was Aussie but I knew he wasn't an English fan. Still thought it prudent to add no offense as I don't mean to offend anyone personally. And from what I have read some of them do seem to rate Anderson on par with Steyn. If he's rated alongside Zaheer then that's fair enough. He's not close to Steyn.
FWIW I do rate Root. Just don't find it fair that he gets called as "the" batsman for all conditions when Smith and Kohli have far more complete records, Kohli's in England notwithstanding. Also think he isn't that good against spin and on proper turning pitches he will have problems. I'd also like to see him respond to out and out pace ala Steyn vs Kohli Jo'burg or Johnson vs Kohli..something he hasn't had to do till now.

The point is it's not like Root had a great series. He had a decent series, nothing more nothing less. The pitches were flat and his best and only big score came in the drawn test on what was probably the flattest pitch all series. On such pitches you want to get a couple of hundreds to have a "good series". Not a bad series by any stretch of the imagination though. Some progress in making that away record better(esp. tons).
I remember you predicted that Ashwin would end the series with 28 wickets in a thread which was made right after Eng lost to Bangladesh. Superb prediction since Ashwin managed only one wicket in the last test!

And shitcanning Joe Root...........I've asked him this before and didn't get an answer. So I can only assume the Root is not "Joe Root" but as he's an Aussie it means ****ing.
So the lad is a fan of shagging..........well FMD, isn't he just the unique one.
Anyway, belated congrats to India and their fans (well the RANDI ones anyways
)........totally outclassed Eng in all departments and no argument from me that they sit top of the heap right now.
