Taylor lucky by the sounds of it.

Will be a huge innings for Nicholl's. If he looks all at sea once again, on a flat pitch, an old ball, against 4 130km seamers, I think he should be put back into domestic and work on his footwork. Brownlie and Will Young to put heaps of pressure on with runs.. Hopefully :S

Don't worry guys, the answer to our middle order problem has been found:

Thanks Gaz Williams.
I was just coming on to post that. Must surely be trolling. Then again, Hamish Marshall does have a habit of being selected against all common sense, so maybe he's a lock.

The fact that he squared up his stance shows how early he was on that ball, it was a great ball, came towards him and seamed away, but it's the type of thing he used to be a master of soft handing down to the ground via gully. At the moment he's lost that in his game and he's getting out repeatedly in this fashion.
Jesus dude, he's not invincible. Even the best get out to great deliveries.

Why are you so emotional about it? You do realise pointing out that when a set batsman gets out to something they shouldn't have isn't an emotional issue right? You're not personally attached to his career, it's OK on an internet forum to pass critique.

I honestly don't get the Hamish Marshall ridicule. His brother was pants, but Hamish was actually a pretty decent batsman for us - until he seemed to lose confidence in a hurry. His 146 against McGrath, Warne et al was a cracking knock. Don't take this post as advocating his recall though. The glory days of 2005 seem well gone.

Yup, I guess acting like they're a personal family member just because they play for your national team, and being personally offended when someone points out a mistake/error that they make is a great way to involve yourself in internet discussions.

Agree with this; I always thought he was decent. IIRC, he often got shuffled around the order, which wasn't fair in him.

Marshall just your classic run of the mill mediocre NZ middle order player that we have seen countless times, not even being harsh. What I mean is that they fooled into "looking good" but providing no substance whatsoever. We are seeing this with Hamish Nicholls right now, they keep harping on about temperament this that but we are not seeing anything to back that up. To be fair though, Nicholls, much like Marshall are part of mostly trash batting lineup and Nicholls did have the great fortune of playing India IN India, where better men have come back questioning "what is cricket?".

Another one on the ignore list.

Taylor has definitely contributed this game, I'd say his two innings are more than we could've hoped from Brownlie.

Well it was more his ODI career that died a long lingering death to be fair ... two fifties in his last 31 innings, 15 single figure scores in there too.

He did start off well in both formats for NZ.

But he's a Firebird now, so I love him. :)

The theory is right, go to a highly experienced player who can fill the gap and potentially offer more than a debutant can, especially considering we're still blooding several new players in Raval, Santner, Nicholls and De Grandhomme, but the player is all wrong for it.

I'd rather see us go to youth and give one of the guys who has managed to average over 40 their entire domestic career a chance to prove like Raval did that our domestic stats should be taken a little more seriously.

PS - Latham is an idiot.

Not Terrible
Latham just can't get the big runs. He's 5 100s 11 50s on paper, but 2 of those tons were against an abysmal Zimbabwe.

I don't understand it either. Looking at his test career, he also got 76 in the first innings at Eden Park in that 2005 series, then 160 against Sri Lanka. It seems that he was subsequently promoted to open in tests, where he didn't fare too well (although he only played 13 tests in total). At school his brother would open and he would bat number 4. His ODI record was pretty good until it tailed off in 2005/2006 when he was moved down to 7 in the order.

He did very well when he was first called into the test team in 2000 in South Africa, getting 40 not out in a total of 200, and it was almost 4 years before he had another opportunity at test level.

So Pakistan need to bowl us out for another 60-80 runs to give themselves an outside chance of winning the match. Not impossibly given our middle and lower order, though Latham and Williamson have gone a long way to making the game safe.

Disappointing that Latham failed to make a hundred, again.
