Good batting pitch. Warner can take them apart. 400 has been chased down on this ground previously. And more importantly just 2 seamers for Proteas for rest of this test. 5+ sessions left in the test.

Not directing this at you, more in general
fmd, one failure (especially when people were trying to argue that he wasn't actually out anyway) does not mean Smith has entirely forgotten how to score runs. One awesome ball from Rabada does not mean Khawaja has immediately forgotten how to score runs. Shaun Marsh made 60-odd in the first dig. Voges has a career average in the 140s at home.
We're not talking about a tail that starts at #3 and a guaranteed lol-apse once the first wicket falls ffs.
That being said, I can't imagine them chasing 400+, let alone the 500 that they'll probably be set. But that's not because the entirety of Australia's batting line-up that stacked up 4/550 all last summer has collectively forgotten how to score runs.

Think SA will want about 30 min session before tea, if they can... allows Rabada and Philander about 5 overs each, before maybe another 2 each after tea then bring on Maharaj and go from there. Lead should be well over 500 and protects the bowlers in the beginning. And with lots of runs should allow attacking fields throughout the Aus innings

Yea, a win will do Proteas good but being a pace bowler short their first priority would be to rule out an Australian victory on day 4 rather than giving them 20-30% chance of chasing it down on day 5.

I can't see 500 being chased down. Waiting too long would make the draw too much of a risk.
