Definitely not a good time to get a duck given Ronchi is opening with him this innings. A ton from Ronchi here and we could see Hesson bite the bullet.
While Guptill deserves to go, dropping him for Ronchi is a terrible decision IMO.

I'm actually dreading seeing what team Hesson and co come up with for the first test. I can just see us playing Craig, Bracewell and perhaps even Ronchi.

I don't think Craig and Bracewell will play; it'll be one or the other IMO (probably Craig I'd say).

Ronchi for Guptill, Craig instead of Sodhi, Neesham as 3rd seamer (or even new ball)

Funky opening option and awesome tail* Just like the Fleming era

* Although Ashwin will love all those lefthanders

I'm not sure it is. I'm not against something out of the box like this - Ronchi isn't going to score tons but if he can knock up 60 or so (as he's doing now against spinners that his team mates are falling to) it's got to be a better option than Gup who is just next to zero chance of scoring any runs. I think we all know how Ashwin v Guptill ends.

Doesn't mean Gup doesn't play in the home series v Bangladesh (is that who's first to tour?) but it's just saying we want to win here in India right now, and Ronchi is a better run-scoring option than Gup.

This series should be fun. I expect nothing less than a convincing 2-0 for us though.

Also, at this point with Guptill I could barely bring myself to disagree if Ronchi was used as a stunt opener in his place.

Notwithstanding that Ronchi hasn't scored international runs in any format since his one and only test 18 months ago. We seem to like recalling 35 year-olds to open after all chances of playing for NZ again seemed to be gone. Fulton, Bell, Redmond etc.
