I think Woakes is significantly better in both disciplines than Bresnan, but Bresnan actually did it at Test level for more than one summer. He was a beast in that 2011 India series (154 @ 77, 16 @ 16.31), and a genuinely good Test option outside of that. Woakes is basically having his version of that series now, but has nothing outside of it.

Bresnan was fine until the elbow injury, after that he was pretty useless but they gave him a chance.
