*Official* Australia in Sri Lanka 2016

Most likely just a weight of money thing ATM. Early bookies odds copying betfairs exchange so as not to produce arbs. Early BF odds are often well out as it's traders speculating and not punters.

Also there will be a lot more Aussies betting on their team that vice versa.
True, I think Australia went off at 4/5(1.8) before the second test. What a time to be alive:laugh:

I have a theory on this which is climate related, specifically the 2000-2009 drought
nah its bullshit, when they needed it for the pink ball to work, the flattest pitch in the country became a green seamer.

if there's a legitimate will to produce pitches in australia that offer more for the bowlers it can be done but right now i'm not sure there is

Whatever it takes!!!
Congrats to Lanka.. Great win.. Aussies need to work out how to play in conditions that are not their bread and butter. I guess rest of the teams do too but at least the others seem to try to do better..

Dead rubber syndrome..
Also SSC is notorious for being a dead pitch. It might end up being a runfest, and Starc can destroy SL batting on his own. Herath & Co will have trouble bowling sides out when there is no assistance. Herath has his worst average in an SL pitch at SSC (~29)

Yeah India might not win overseas since 2011 but they still put up a better performance than this.
We've been pretty atrocious in the last two trips to England and also the 2011-12 tour of Australia, worse than this I'd say.

But the late 2000's team was really resilient, they were definitely much better No. 1's. Right now, I think England are better than everyone else regardless of rankings (not perfect but clearly better).

Oh yeah, 8-0 was far, far worse than Australia in this series. Australia's last trip to India was comparable to how we played in those two series.

Pakistan can't be a million miles off. They've got an incredible 'home' record and they've looked the most comfortable of the Asian teams in England IMO.

Hopefully their governments, or boards, or whoever it is that needs to hug it out will do so and give us India v Pakistan.

Not this **** again, I'm not talking about Warne, I watched the 2004 series live and very well know what happened. Sl captain hashan and murali spread the fields and let the aussie batsmen take all 3 tests out of the reach of sl in the 3rd innings. If murali had attacked when aus were in the ropes especially in galle where they had a deficit of 150+ it could have very well gone sl's way. Its a series full of missed opportunities. Without even watching any matches, just follow them on cricinfo and make a useless website with laughable rankings using spreadsheets and statsguru. Let me know if you need timeout.
This is absolutely wrong. The issue in that test was SL batting. With Aravinda and Arjuna retired and Sanga and Mahela as green as they can be, it was on Hashan Tillekaratne to rack up big numbers. But experienced batsmen failed. Especially to bat on 4th innings. The failure of Tillekaratne was the main reason, who was well known for his dogged boring innings. If Hashan was at his best, then Warne would have been ground down to dirt.

Far far worse is probably a little bit of an exaggeration tbh. But yes, we were atrocious.

So many godawful overseas series from number 1 ranked teams recently... Ind in Eng 2011, Eng in UAE 2011, Aus in UAE 2014, SA in India last year and now this effort from Australia. Woeful stuff.

See to be honest, the 8-0 is most easily explained by your great bastmen, with the glorious exception of Dravid in England, all suddenly growing old and over the hill together. Even in your run to number 1 the bowlers were always prone to bowling complete trash at times (South Africa away 1st Test immediately springs to mind.)

It's easy to forget how many just plain ridiculous innings Sehwag played between 2008 and 2010.

Zaheer breaking down so early into the Lord's match in 2011 was a heart-breaker.. though thoroughly predictable. :(

I don't see how England with nearly a 3rd of their side being Ali (as a bowler), Hales and Vince are the number one side in the world. Huge ?s there

It same for everyone though, if Pakistan wins this current series it fair to call them number one but really there just is not one right now.

Well done. and Dilruwan has played a substantial knock indeed!

He has to be a average 25-30 batsman. His FCC average is 24, but SL wickets are so ****, most of the top order averages more in tests than in FCC. I would even settle for an average of 25. His bowling credentials never had been in question, and the way he re-invented himself to spin the ball big in the threat of PHT Kaushal was commendable. Kusal Mendis is the other bright point.

However, we have issues in next test. Vishwa Fernando doesn't give me confidence and in Colombo, we may need two pacemen, needing to drop a spinner. May be, drop Herath and allow Dilruwan to lead attack with Sandakan.

If the following scores happen

England 2-1 Pakistan
SL 2-0 Australia
WI 0-2 India

then all of England, India and Australia will be tied on 110 rankings points. In this circumstance England would be ranked no.1 because of having played the most matches, which is hilarious and would probably make weldone explode

Hales, to use an old CW meme, isn't terrible. There's not exactly a load of good opening bats going around.
