lions squad for 50 over games against Pak and SL. Malan to lead youthful Lions squad | England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) - The Official Website of the ECB

England Lions squad for Tri-Series, July 18-25:

Dawid Malan (Middlesex, captain)
Daniel Bell-Drummond (Kent)
Ben Duckett (Northants)
Joe Clarke (Worcestershire)
Brett D’Oliveira (Worcestershire)
Sam Billings (Kent, wk)
Liam Livingstone (Lancashire)
Liam Dawson (Hampshire)
Tom Curran (Surrey)
Jamie Overton (Somerset)
Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire)
George Garton (Sussex)
Sam Curran (Surrey) * to join squad for last two matches only

They've gone really young especially with the bowling with 3 guys who were at the u19 WC last year. Looks more a development xi rather than a genuine 2nd xi. Does potentially point to a lack of seamers in the 21-25 age bracket although the likes of Stone, Helm and Fisher (although he is only 18) are injured.

Yeah I like the look of that team, no point picking loads of older players a few like Malan, Dawson plus loads of young talent.

Really exciting team.

Brilliant redemptive year from Duckett really. From crashing his car while drunk and being out of the Northants team - to a callup to the lions squad and Northamptonshire captain (at only 21) today.

This somerset wicket looks very green from the pictures on twitter. Certainly a gamble knowing they will have to bat first, but Middlesex without TRJ, Finn and Murtagh, so at least a calculated gamble.

Yorkshire going with the four bats (none of whom are really in much form) and a load of (good) allrounders. Can't think that Rafiq will actually bat 5. Still they're playing Surrey

Lyth, Lees, Gale c, Leaning, Rafiq, Bresnan, Rashid, Willey, Plunkett, Hodd w, Patterson

I don't think he's amazing but they haven't got anyone else have they? He isn't a bad bat though. I'd possibly have him above Willey and Plunkett (and Rafiq unless he's been working on his batting since been released and re-signed by Yorkshire).

Wow Wheater, kind of makes him more frustrating that he can play that sort of innings. The team actually making runs sure makes a difference though.

Also invited to the session was the 19-year-old Lancashire legspinner, Matt Parkinson, who last month claimed five wickets on debut against Warwickshire at Old Trafford and has played just three first-class game. The England management hope that, by monitoring and encouraging the best county spinners, they can accelerate their progress in the game.

Interesting he has been earmarked already.

2 runs off maximum batting point. Twice in two games.

Sam Hain needed that ton desperately. We aren't going to win enough games to challenge this year I don't think.

Clarke was bowling quite well for Lancs till that six was hit off him. Fairly fast (83-92 mph) with the odd slower ball. Accurate too. Lancashire had too few on the board though.
