so now that compdog failed again and borthwick is a huge chance i must ask

when exactly did he decide he was a batsman
3 years he has been batting the top 3? Averages mid 40s I think, and has nearly 1700 runs (partially thanks to playing and scoring runs in Sri Lanka/NZ as well) over last 12 months.

Last year apparently

The Shaun Marsh vibes are real though, but with a Root-esque back foot offside game to my eye.

Yeah I am pretty sure he knew he wasn't going to be a spinner by the time England picked him. He scored 1022 runs at 39 in 2013, top scorer/average for Durham.

I dunno I think as recent as last season he gave interviews where he still thought bowling was his best chance.

IIRC him going to 3 at Durham originally was because they had no one else and was seen as very funky and desperate at the time.

If England are to pick him they got to discount any thinking of him being another bowling option. 3 is a key spot (especially with the shaky opener and 5 spot also open) and you've got to go for the best batsman there. England already are picking 5 bowlers. Anything he will do in the field has to be a bonus but imo shouldn't be a consideration of the selectors given the current makeup of the team.

I think Worcestershire opener K.Cadmore should play for England soon, 4 century in 5 innings , he scored 42 recently in the last Royal London Cup.

Worcestershire have some serious talents. Joe Clarke is the creme of the crop but Kolher-Cadmore and D'Oliveira look very good as well.

Pick him at 3 for the Pakistan series and hope he does well, be a useful extra option with the ball in the winter given where we are going if he is a success but should not be a reason right now for picking him. He is being picked for his runscoring over the last few years and like Bairstow last year weight of runs means he deserves a chance. Up to him to take it like Bairstow has.

Winter will be interesting should he be the guy in possesion. He isn't good enough to be a second spinner in Asia especially with Ali as your first spinner imo. That I hope wouldn't be an option unless they thought there was something for seamers. Rashid likely to be the second spinner (if last winter anything to go on) which would render Borthwick's spin of little consequence. I'd also say his batting is a little dodgy against spin from what I've seen. There is potentially the option of Ali, SLA (Kerrigan, Ansari, whoever) and Borthwick as a third spinner.

Can't really say I saw Myburgh as a T20 hero, but I'll take it I guess, beating Surrey never gets old.

On that note I do wonder why Stephan doesn't play for anyone in the Blast. He'd count as a local and he's definitely a step above some of the other batsmen who get a game. Counties probably aren't that keen on contracting a 32 old T20 specialist unless he's really really good, I guess.

Yeah there could be a bit of a snitcher there against a T20 specialist who only ended up dropping in on paydays, Cribbage. Counties could well still see the T20 as a bit of a sugar cube to reward their carthorse's toil. Hashtags extolling "#propercricket" abound, even if that proper cricketer is often just Matt Quinn or Kieran Noema-Barnett.

I've seen a bit but I'm a pretty terrible judge of keeping.. however I'd put him ahead of Bairstow, below Buttler.
