Vardy for £20m is an absolute steal. And he's the perfect striker to play in a team with Özil, he'd score a ****ton of goals with Özil behind him sticking him through one-on-one 2 or 3 times a game.

Off the top of my head I can't immediately think of another striker in Europe with Vardy's main attributes (pace, workrate, ability to play on the last shoulder and general nuisance value), certainly none that would be available as cheaply.

The only reason I don't want Arsenal to sign him is that the romantic in me wants Leicester to have a crack at the Champions League before their players move on.
Yeah, 100% agree with all of this.

The other thing with Vardy is that if he flops we should still be able to get most, if not all of our money back given the state of the English market.

It's just snobbishness that Vardy is somehow 'beneath us' because of his journey in the professional game so far. That sort of snobbishness would have prevented the vast majority of the Invincibles team being signed, only Lehmann, Campbell and Bergkamp had any sort of real pedigree pre-Arsenal.

Hope Leicester go out and buy a replacement for a big fee, I thought they should probably try and just keep things together with a few squad additions but think a big statement would be the way to go if they lose Vardy.

Honestly it's not like Özil has been slipping in through balls for days at Arsenal*. Leicester are basically the opposite of Arsenal stylistically so I think it's fair to have doubts. Think Alexis could really be awesome with Vardy in the side though, he's just been twice the player playing behind Walcott/Welbeck compared to Giroud. Release clause is supposedly just above £20m (have even heard rumours it's less) and we're not exactly going to get a better player for less so I'd probably take it. Morata was my preference but the price quoted from Madrid is over €70m/£50m which is pretty insane.

*I guess that's partly to do with the type of strikers he's played with as well. There's definitely some causality there. But I just don't think he's really the type of playmaker to be super direct and play long into open space like Fabregas was.

Morata's a Juve player, or have I missed Real announcing their intention to exercise his buy back clause?

Leicester being the opposite stylistically to Arsenal doesn't matter either, hopefully this interest in Vardy is a sign that Arsenal are moving back towards the high tempo counter attacking side of the Invincible era instead of the turgid **** we watched last season.

Right but teams set up a lot differently against you than they did against Leicester.

It's a good signing I think. Don't really expect it to come off massively but it's hard to think of a better striker they could get cheaper.

I'm a bit unconvinced by Morata. Feel like he's had a very short burst of good form and Real are looking to cash in while his stock is high. Dybala is the one everyone should want, although the lack of much speculation over him suggests he's going nowhere. Lukaku will probably move on too but he seems kind of unfashionable.

Dybala is world class but the ship has sailed unfortunately. If he moves again it won't be to an Arsenal level club.

I kind of assume Lukaku will just be crazy money. There's just no pressure on clubs like Everton to sell these days, look at what they rejected for Stones.

I don't see Vardy succeeding at Arsenal.. it's not a snobbish thing. I just don't think Wenger will utilize him as well as Ranieri did. He'll probably stick him out wide or something.

Glad I'm not the only one, I wouldn't go near Morata.

Dybala on the other hand is a magnificent player. Don't see Juve selling him seeing as he cost them €30m last summer.

Higuain going to go somewhere for stupid money as well?

Morata was so good against Bayen, I know his scoring record is not that great but I find it hard to ignore that sort of performance.

Higuain would probably be a bigger risk than Vardy because he'd be moving to a new league and country late in his career. I was never a huge fan but he's been incredible at Napoli. I could see him replacing Ibra at PSG.

I just don't think RM would be looking to sell Morata if he was even close to as good as he looked in that Bayern game. It's not like them to be moving on a potentially world-class young Spanish striker. Juve don't seem desperate to keep him either.

Juve are in a position where they should be able to attract better than Morata.

IIRC Higuaín's release clause is in the region of €90m. Wouldn't go near him for that money tbh.

The negativity on Arsenal forums regarding Vardy puzzles me. So many people wanting the deal to fall through despite the backlash last season after not buying a striker.
