So Leicester are probably going to finish with over 80 points. Which I think changes the all the other top teams should be embarrassed narrative.

I don't think it's embarrassing because Leicester aren't good. They would completely deserve the title on their own merit if they did it. But when a club's management argues for years that an upper-mid table finish counts as success because it's impossible to compete with the richest clubs, this makes them look bad. No getting around that.

Did they not finish last season with something like 7 wins from 9? Making their record across the last 38 games pretty stunning?

I still can't shake the feeling that they're going to fall tragically short, but nobody with the exception of Spurs seems to want to win the thing. Leicester could collapse and lose 4 or 5 of their last 7 and still finish at least 2nd IMO.

How many points for CL qualification?

There's been a curious phenomenon whereby as more and more money has been pumped into the Premier League, the big sides have gotten worse.

I think part of it can be explained by the likes of West Ham being able to attract players like Payet wage wise, who would probably have been out of their league 3 or 4 years ago, thus narrowing the gap but it's bizarre how much money the bigger clubs have spunked away on absolute shite.

Liverpool have bought very badly as well.

It's almost as if the big (and midtable) Premier League clubs think that having more money gives them a free pass in terms of having to do sensible recruitment, youth development and innovative coaching. They seem to think "why do all that boring stuff when we can just poach the next good promising talent from Sevilla/Leverkusen/Roma by offering to double their salary". Doesn't really work that way as recent results in Europe have shown.

Agree completely. Have said it before but you'd never see any of the PL clubs do what Dortmund have done this season. English clubs feel they can spend their way out of trouble and, in fairness, it's what most fans demand too. I'm really interested to see Pep in the PL though, along with Klopp in his 2nd season. Will raise the overall coaching and tactical level and hopefully force other clubs to improve as well.

Sounds an awful lot more like protectionism than libertarianism.

League football is largely predicted on the chance, however remote, that any team in the pyramid can ultimately win the title and gather the spoils like CL qualification.

Now when a quote-unquote "lesser" team actually threatens to do it this client goes on about growth of the "brand".

Seriously, what the actual ****?!

Leicester were founded before Man Utd, so from that point of view, yes, Leicester did create football.

It's ironic he's arguing for a US franchise model to 'protect' the likes of Man Utd from Leicester when adopting the US model would make a story like Leicester's more likely.

See that's God decided he quite fancies Johann Cruyff to play up front for his all time XI.

An absolute footballing visionary.

Terrible news. Thought there was some news that he had got much better in the last few months. Absolute icon of the sport.

Cruyff was whom my first girlfriend made me watch to try and get me into football. His legend will only grow. RIP.

RIP before my time but you know how good he was without seeing him just by listening to people who saw him. They go misty eyed recalling his genius.
