ukmal also does **** all in crunch situations
Averages 49 at number 3 from 18 games, which includes two blistering knocks of 90 odd against Australia in World T20 2010 and 2014.

I agree he ****s it up but I think the blame has to go to the management. He doesn't know what his role is.

He needs to be clear about what his role is, they have to be show faith in him, give him an extended stay at number 3 and see what he can do.

Look how India developed Rohit Sharma..guy used to do **** all as well for a very long time but India kept the faith and gave him a well defined role.

The problem for Umar is in this format he is surrounded by spuds so people have slightly unrealistic expectations for a guy who so often has to play catch up after the top order more often than not crawl to nothing:laugh:

He isn't perfect, but in this side their is much more pressing concerns.

No quality opener, no frontline spinner and Anwar Ali still hovering around selection.:@

Oh and Nawaz like Wasim have blown their chances for selection. I'd have liked to have seen Gohar or Ashgar have a look, but the moment has well and truly passed.

They have some talent just no experience and therefore temperament is really poor..our domestic circuit is so **** that the jump to international level is huge..
The school cricket which was the strength of SL over the years seems to be on decline and needs to be addressed...

School cricket in Sri Lanka which not so long ago was the nursery to Sri Lanka Cricket appears to be on a declining trend.

For those who are genuine followers of School Cricket this is no surprise as they would have witnessed the gradual decline in the Sandard of Schools Cricket which can no longer produces the Ranatungas, Mahanamas, De Silvas or the Muralitharans who simply walked into the National Team straight from School.

For others who are not keen followers of School Cricket, the recent performance of the Under 19’s at the World Cup where Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh is testimony to the islands continuous decline in the standard of School Cricket.

Various reasons have been attributed to the declining standards of School Cricket which includes the Overall Structure, the format, the Competition, lack of knowledgeable Coaches, Trainers, parental interferences etc. which have never been addressed by the Schools Cricket Association or by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) if it has the authority to do so.

Can't believe people are discussing Umar...He's the least of Pakistani batting problems in T20.

Looking at all the "test" sides, in this format its safe to say that Pakistan have the worst opening options, Shezhad, Hafeez and hacks like Sharjeel, Mukhtar etc.

The good news is I'd expect the pitches to be less lively in India thus they may not be as useless as they have been for this competition though.

Sarfraz at three is a rare sensible call from the selectors.
tbh needs more big nas

Yeah I saw that pic yesterday as well. Bangladesh really hates us. They consider us a rival. Not sure why. India v Pakistan is a rivalry. Australia v England is a rivarly. India v Bangladesh is not, regardless of how terrific Bangladesh have been at times over the past year or so. It's unrelated to that. Not every team you face forms a rivalry ffs.

Yes this is very interesting and I have spoken to a few BD fans especially during their India games and based on what I have read on Cricinfo and online

There are a couple of factors behind this.

1) I think it dates back to the 2007 WC when apparently Mashrafe and a few other BD players were talking to their Indian counterparts before the start of the tournament and apparently the Indian players were talking about the next round as if they were already there. This really bothered the BD players and of course we know what happened next.

2) The other issue that bothers BD is the fact that India despite being a neighbour has never ever invited BD for a test series.

3) Indian Star Sports pissed off a lot of people last year with their mauka ads, but none were more pissed than the BD fans.

4) The infamous no ball that reprieved Rohit during the World Cup Quarter Final:laugh: Apparently a Pakistani Aleem Dar conspired with BCCI to keep BD out of the World Cup.

5) Navjot Sidhu apparently insulted BD by saying they don't belong at the highest level

6) In general BD fans feel that Indians don't offer BD the respect as a nation.

Now just a disclaimer: These are not my opinions so please don't come after me. I am just stating what I have gathered. I can't comment on the validity or truth of these claims.

My own personal take from all this is that BD fans (not all of course, AndyZaltsHair is one of the best members over here) in general tend to be super nationalistic as is apparent from a certain poster here and Athar Ali's commentary  When you wear your nationalism on your heart, anything and everything is going to appear as an insult to you. I am not saying that this is exclusive only to people from BD...but on CW for most part, we don't tend to attract those kinds of fans (other than a few exceptions of course :p)

The other factor is also that a lot of the BD fans are new cricket fans that you find online (cricinfo/youtube comments section) in that they have started watching cricket maybe in the last 5 years when BD have shown some improvement. So the perspective that you gain from having watched a lot of cricket is missing there. So while I would be upset about a bad umpiring decision going against Pakistan costing them the game, I would get over it pretty soon because I won't take it personally..because I have watched enough cricket to know this is going to happen. But when you haven't watched that many games, especially those involving other teams as BD don't get to play as much, a wrong umpiring decision is going to be a major major thing for you and you will think it's a conspiracy against your team.

What are you referring to?

I think the Sehwag "ordinary side" quote is during the Bangladesh test series of 2009-10.

Virat Kohli (c)
yeah he said they can't take 20 wickets right? And then after Banglas pushed India hard, he still said "well they didn't take 20 wickets"

BD bowled India out for 240 odd in the first innings I think but then failed to take advantage. Second innings India got a big total and Sehwag who was captain declared
