***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2015/16

Interesting the guys that you would think are closest to selection, Brownlie, Rutherford, Munro are all having very average seasons.
Yeah there are some bad seasons there, especially Brownlie. Can't say I love Rutherford or Munro for NZ tests so look to the players closer to the top of the list.

Jeez, this is proving to be a bit of a banner year for Kugz. 29 wickets at 24 and 300+ runs at 50.
Do you see him ever playing for NZ? I find it hard to. Maybe limited overs though I could see his bowling getting smacked around there.

Murdoch should have made to Black caps ages ago... He was in great touch earlier this year. Unfortunately at the wrong side of the age perhaps?
Has always been nearly by not quite there, a bit like Neil Broom. Disadvantaged by playing for Wellington perhaps. Probably won't happen but a couple of great seasons and selectors aren't averse to calling up 35 year olds these days (he's 32 now).

It's a concern given his international batting issues that the best average belongs to Mr Ronchi.
One of the things I wanted to look at was a new backup test keeper for NZ :/

I wouldn't blindly go with the stats, Ben Smith, Worker, Popli, Blundell and W Young are all a good chance. These days we seem to get international ready players unlike in the past. I'm thinking if you pick any of these they should be good to go.
To me, Smith seems to have appeared from nowhere, but yeah he looks fairly good, as does Young. Unusual at present - we might have a promising young opener averaging 50+ not rushed straight into the NZ test side.

Worker might get more ODI chances. Don't know much about Popli.

What's Blundell's keeping like?

Popli classic Indian styled cricketer. Good timer of the ball and supple wrists..

Blundell's all right as a keeper, not outstanding but safe enough. He bats quite well though, easily could fit in the top order for firebirds. Still young enough, maybe I'm a bit biased to Wellington players but I see he's been through the grind and has held up all right.

Hmmm, dunno. He's really quite fast nowadays, wouldn't be surprised if he's capable of registering a few in the high 140's. With his batting I could definitely see him taking advantage of Doug falling out of favour with the selectors down the road.

I can see him definitely playing T20 and ODI cricket, although having said that the all-rounders ahead of him - Anderson, Neesham and Santner - are all younger, I'd presume. Probably needs to be picked as a bowler, sort of like a Nathan Coulter-Nile type of player. Can hit, but is in the same predominantly for his bowling. He's certainly got enough about his bowling, with pace/late outswing/hits deck when he's on.

Not a chance of NZ selection until his criminal case is done and dusted.

Thought experiment. If for some reason we couldn't pick our incumbent seven, who would be selected. No Gup, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, McCullum (or Nicholls), Anderson (or Santner), Watling

Tails seem to have done less damage in recent weeks, colin is averaging 36 and hira is dropped.

Could they....could they have figured it out?

Whoever is in the NZ A side, I presume.

He's basically the same age as those guys. a year younger than Neesham and Anderson.

Nah I think he wants the 'younger and has potential' factor of a NZA team selection removed, that's how I read it.

Rutherford
Smith
Brownlie
Young
Munro
Neesham
Ronchi
Yes; that's the spirit in which I was intending, who would we expect to see in the test side in the event of a plane crash (morbidity excluded)

I'd say

Wilson
Smith
Young
Popli
Munro
Neesham
Seifert

Brad Wilson? He's not much chop.

I don't think domestic runs are, nor should, be enough to get you a look in any more. Nicholls got the nod because he tonned up x2 v Sri Lanka A and also looked decent in coloured clothing. Will Young might've had the inside running previously. So guys like Popli, Wilson, Smith need to get there and Young needs to cash in there. Get those guys competing regularly there and then they'll be one step closer.

Half way through the Plunket Shield.
Auckland opening up a bit of a gap on the field, with their outright win over second placed wellington in last round.

1 Auckland 75
2 Wellington 58
3 Canterbury 47
4 Northern Districts 40
5 Otago 33
6 Central Districts 26

and at the half way point.

Ben Smith is leading run scorer.
Scott Kuggeleijn leading wicket taker (he has 29 wickets and his lead over Baker in second place with 21 is pretty sizable)

Obviously NDs batting must be letting them down so far if they have the 2 leading wicket takers.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I'd like for our up and coming A team to be

1. B Smith (slowly being won over)
2. M Bracewell
3. R O'Donnell*
4. Bharat Popli
5. W Young
6. T Bruce
7. Seifert+
8. I Sodhi
9. B Wheeler
10. J Duffy
11. E Nuttall
