Which of Warner, Khawaja, Smith, Bailey, Maxwell, Wade, MMarsh and Hazlewood wouldn't be in the top Aust ODI squad? Must have some pretty handy players not touring ...
yeah the only players who are out are a bunch of quicks. which makes an obvious difference, but this is more or less the first choice team otherwise.

Pretty terrible batting from the Blackcaps. The Aussies have figured Williams out as well. Really missing Taylor.
Seriously skittled for 245 on another belter of a pitch ! . Succumbing to the medium paced trundlers from Marsh just wow. Anderson and Ronchi have done little in this series.

And Finch, but that arguably strengthens the team.

Even "a bunch of quicks" is really just Starc, Cummins and Coulter-Nile at this point though.. and Cummins is always out, and NCN isn't very good, so in a way it's really just Starc. That makes a big difference when the replacement is Boland, but it just feels like more because of recent retirements.

"Players who PEWS talked up as having considerable ability who then on went to show the complete opposite" sound better?
It sounds silly but it's more accurate. I think "funny posts which make PEWS look like a fool minutes later" gives a wide enough berth without seeming contrived.

I want to make an XI of players who've failed after you tried to build them up though.

"PEWS Fail XI" seems apt.

Get the feeling KW is going to struggle in the Tests, he has been exposed outside offstump by Pakistan and Aus.

It will only get harder if the ball is swinging and he is in early (likely with Guptill opening).

also impressed with how, in an innings with so many valid things to moan about, some posters are managing to moan about the wrong things.

first of all, I agree with you. No way is this an Aus B side.

but one could argue that Khawaja wouldn't be 1st choice with Finch in (he should be though) and Wade definitely shouldn't be

Australia have rallied really well after that embarrassing first ODI. Their fielding placements have been on point and have successfully counter-attacked maturely in the last two ODIs. Even though there has been some fielding mishaps more often than you'd usually see, they've just about always had the fielders in the right places which has really stifled the Black Caps who are used to get their own way and then sitting on bowling attacks looking to limit the damage than actually hit back like the Australians have done.

Oh and although it would've been great if Baz went on to make a bigger score absolutely none of this was his fault. We were going at over 7 at one stage, and we should've steered towards 300 no problems. Australia came back well, with a key moment bringing Marsh on earlier than he may otherwise have done. But seriously our lower order is an utter shambles. Elliott has slowly and painfully batted his way back into some form but we needed more than him. CJ seems to think he needs to live up to his big hitting reputation and threw away a good start, and Ronchi is just absolute mud now. Has averaged 13 in the 30 odd one dayers since his Dunedin 170*. He for a time deserved his place on the back of some good performances and the way he plays the game but honestly we probably would've been better with Latham opening and keeping and McCullum batting 7 to actually finish off an innings.

246 is not a huge total to defend but there seemed like more movement off the pitch and through the air than the first two one dayers. We may see something special but we don't really deserve it.
