Sobers was legitimately ATG in two disciplines and had unparalleled versatility in a third.

Miller may have been more balanced but wasn't truly great in any category.

There speaks the voice of the young uninformed.

Seriously, Miller averaged 22 bowling and 37 batting in Test Cricket and 22 bowling and 48 batting in in FC cricket...many players would give their first born to average either in batting or bowling ;)

It's very close, as any great race should be, but I'm going for Sobers by a short head

Had Miller not had a dodgy back all through his career I suspect he would have won it at a canter

(All puns unashamedly deliberate given the great love of the turf that both had)

Sobers.

I think that Miller could have been the greatest, had he had the desire to be but, to someone who has been a fighter pilot during the war, you get the distinct impression that to him cricket was just a game.

How is averaging 37 in test cricket an ATG performance?

He also wasn't a top tier fast bowler either. His sr and wpm were just not quite good enough to be in the ATG category.

You are going by stats alone.Younever saw him play. Too young for you to be so judgemental

aussietragic didn't say averaging 37 is an ATG performance. He said most cricketers in the world would be extremely happy to have that record at the test level. Which is true.

Sobers. He is the best cricketer amongst the two and he is a legit all rounder no question so therefore he is the best all rounder. The question was not who was the most pure all rounder (Miller).
