Man not sure what to make of Chandimalball. Just does whatever the **** he wants and it often works out.

In such a meek defensive batting lineup they definitely need someone with a bit of sass
It's not really as meek/defensive as it's appeared in this match, tbh.

Karunaratne - yeah, sure.

Vithanage is extremely aggressive by nature though, and Siriwardane/Jayasundera/Mendis all score really quickly in domestic cricket. Mathews is orthodox but has scored at a fair rate in Test cricket as well. They've all played well within themselves because of the runs New Zealand have racked up in the first innings and the fact that the conditions are a bit alien to them.

I do think having someone with a bit of flair at four suits their lineup if Mathews is going to bat five, but most of these guys aren't playing their normal games in this match.

edit -i'd swap mathews and chandimal in the order though, and put kaushal silva at #3 with Jayasundera at #6 in place of vithanage

Yeah, not sure where you're getting this from. Remember Latham in the U19 World Cup being rated as a serious player by pretty much everyone who saw him. NZ cricket don't hand out caps to 19 year olds that aren't seriously favoured to have the goods. He was very much always seen as one of "the chosen ones". Not on the same level of Kane, but certainly one of the top 2 or 3 players from an unusually gifted generation.
These being the days in which 'bahnzing' was coined, we barely dared dream that our promising young players would be world class. At one point a lot of us wondered if Williamson would ever average 40, let alone the second best player of the era be a successful batsmen.

Calling him a T20 prospect was probably a bit harsh, in those days it was assumed that every talented player would get a spell or two in the test side. But he liked to move his feet even less than he does now and there are a lot of loose drives/playing away from the body/just plain sloppy dismisal in the vault, all of which plague his game to the day.

So I thought that he would break into the T20 pretty easily because " shots of both feet", but didn't really see him developing into the player he is today till at least 2018.

Yeah he's got the shots to and just looking at his record now his strike rates are a bit higher than I expected, but I think he's finding his niche as a more-defensive-than-average batsman.

Vithanage in particular usually just tees off though.

I mean by the end of the summer Latham could average more than Taylor did during the doom and gloom days.

Good interview with McCullum ruined in the end by asking about his golf game?

The ****? Surely this SKY comm's obsession with golf is getting out of hand?

quite amazing how quickly the rain comes (and with volume - including hail) and then goes away.
