***Official*** West Indies in Australia 2015/16

Why exactly does WI get 3 tests in Aus? It's not like they have been a decent team for.. a good decade now.. I remember back when SL were peaking with Murali in the mid-2000s they still only got 2 tests in Cairns and Darwin..

Australia seems to think it is still the early 80s.

Yeah, Windies still seem able to pull a decent number of tests (well, for a non big three side) when they tour. Had an equal split with South Africa when they toured England in 2012. History doesn't die I guess.

Yep, right alongside conspiracy theories about Narine, claims that players who weren't available would've helped the team no end even though he kept calling for them to be dropped when they were playing, and randomly name-drops of young players who have played less than ten First Class games.
Don't forget the umpiring conspiracies.

Sri Lanka have played in Melb, Syd and Bris and keep in mind that Sri Lanka have never won a test match in Australia.

I know Darren Sammy wasn't a great cricketer, but at least when he played you could tell he cared, and he tried his best at all times. And he generally managed to get nearly all of his team doing likewise. Plus he was an excellent fielder. I think the same of Holder, but I'm not sure he can get the rest of this team to follow him.

Yeah but apart from against Bangladesh, the Windies haven't won a test away from the Caribbean for 7 or 8 years. Last year Sri Lanka won a series in England - a place Australia hasn't won a series since 2001.

Congratulations to Sri Lanka, no they can harass England for a five test series.

I presume we didn't get the main billing of the summer because it would mean back-to-back series' either side of the Tasman...but **** me it's hard to cop when this absolute rabble gets 3 Tests and Boxing Day billing, while we get the early summer then 2 Tests in NZ.

The reason NZ don't get top billing is because of TV rights, When tendering for the rights the markets in NZ and SL are much smaller.

The market for NZ is smaller than the West Indies? You sure of that? I'm not poo-pooing it, it just doesn't sound right to me. And if bums on seats and local TV viewership are also a due consideration, well it's fairly obvious this side was always going to be a 3-day, uninteresting proposition.

Here's what I think:

1) Australian pitches are roads.
2) Australian batsman know how to ton up at will on said roads.
3) There was nothing wrong with the West Indies bowling when they gave up 500 to Australia in the first dig. 500 is a par score for an an Australian cricket team against any attack on a road at home.
4) The West Indies are a crass batting unit who can't even score runs on roads. I saw several dismissals today to nothing deliveries and the influence of scoreboard pressure.
5) If this series was in the West Indies the series would be competitive.
6) The West Indies are not a spent force and shouldn't take this series to heart.
7) India and Australia are at present the toughest countries in the world to tour.

Other remarks spot on, don't believe these to be the case.

3) There was plenty wrong with the bowling, just like NZ in Perth and Brisbane the lines and lengths were absolutely trash all day except for a single spell by Gabriel that comes to mind. Wasn't also helped by Holder's field sets which were utterly defeatist. A recurring problem with touring teams here really.

5) The recent tour of the West Indies wasn't even that truly competitive when you consider only one player gave Australia trouble in each match (Bishoo and Taylor) and both were efforts in vain.

6) You just have to look at them to see they are spent. Bravo is my favourite example, the guy was utterly disinterested in the field, didn't help his captain at all despite his senior position and only showed any interest when he reached a personal milestone. Meanwhile Samuels did nothing all match, sitting in the outfield with tape on every finger looking like an idiot. Holder looked defeated, the bowlers literally couldn't stop bowling no balls and the news that they didn't even want to bowl from one end speaks of a team fractured, spent and defeated.

Adam Voges of all people who is destined to be remembered as a test match journeyman scored 269 runs at a SR of 94. I will repeat that for emphasis. A Strike Rate of 94.
All against an attack with good credentials: Jerome Taylor, Roach, and Jason Holder. Enough said. The following Youtube clip somes up my points well:
