Didn't see MJs interview yet. I like to imagine he finished with "pitches are ****house. Screw you guys I'm going home".

Yeah he played a few ODIs in England IIRC and though he didn't make that many runs, he played some absurd shots, one-handed ramps over point and the like. Clearly had hand-eye that was on another level.
His innings against Pakistan in 2010 was really good as well. Showed great temperament.

In hindsight the 50 he scored at Sydney in the 2010/11 Ashes was pretty important as well.

Smith didn't come out of nowhere. Was blatantly obvious he was something special.
Ok I don't believe it was blatantly obvious. He was a leg spin allrounder and yes he didn't come out of nowhere, and we were told he could bat a bit butI don't think anyone including yourself could have predicted this.

I said in 2010/11 that Smith needed a full season of Shield cricket to develop his batting but that he obviously had a future in Australia's middle order, and that if his bowling developed then that was a bonus.

I'd be lying if I said I thought Smith would be quite as successful as he's turned out. But I definitely thought he had "it" and felt Australia should stick by him post 2010/11.

Even during his break there were clear signs that out of all the next-rank batsmen, he was the one who was clearly showing the most signs of improvement as a batsman, particularly in his temperament and consistency. Chris Rogers pointed out as much in an article comparing him to Khawaja and SMarsh.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to link me to said article.

Hesson on Craig

We'll look at the surface in Adelaide and we'll see how much grass is on it and look at the balance of the side. But he's certainly an integral member of our side, batting at No.8 and scoring valuable runs and grabbing a few catches at second slip. He's highly likely to play in Adelaide.
It's awesome how blatant Hess is in not mentioning Craig's bowling when he discusses what he brings to the team.

I'm still not really sure whether I'm a fan of the idea of day night tests yet, but the novelty factor means I'm really looking forward to Adelaide.
