Yes, I wondered why he wasn't going inside out.Good captaincy from Smith for that last wicket. Roos should've gone inside out maybe, unelss there was a sweeper
Agreed.I agree with that tactic but we went with "everyone else swing while Taylor becomes increasingly more defensive and disinterested in going for his 300" as our way of going about it.
Would've thought "everyone bat sensibly but once we get to 9 down Ross farms the strike and goes hell for leather for 300 before Boult gets out" would've been the more traditional method
Terrible prediction. What were you thinking.Ross' triple still to come though.
He went from 233 to 290.Agreed.
He for whatever reason decided to prioritise his triple rather than quick runs this morning, which was silly.
Immense innings, but he slowing down was what the team did not need this morning.
It suited Australia though perfectly though, so doubt they were to upset about his strategy.

I get that it's like 99.99% a team game, but a 300 against Australia takes precedence over "Trent Boult might get us some runs" imoMaybe he doesn't give a **** about the personal milestone and is taking a longer view i.e. the more Boult bats he gains confidence and experience in these situations so he doesn't get panicky in the future situations like this.
I mean there are times he could, batting on his third day in 30 degree heat? Probably a bit harderGiven that we all slam the comms when they make a "well teams can score at 12 an over in T20s these days, so they can totally chase 220 in a session" statement, because, you know, they're different formats and you can counter it by bowling more defensively and having men back on the boundary, I'm amazed at the amount of people pretending that Taylor could smash every ball because he's on 290 not out and players can score at 12 an over in T20s these days.
It's also that Taylor just isn't a particularly good slogger these days, and he knows it. It's been pretty evident in his one day game that his peak SR these days is about 110.But yeah anyway, he finally listened to me and immediately got out, so there ya go
I'm referring to the entire day's batting. I understand that Craig, Henry and Southee did not cover themselves in glory if "hang around and make as many runs as possible" was the team goal. It's almost like Australia bowled well to him and, with the 6-guys-back-take-the-single-please fields, it wasn't easy to slog!
Why would Australia be bothered about Taylor meandering to a personal milestone?
Yeah that's 100% true. It's also that Taylor just isn't a particularly good slogger these days, and he knows it. It's been pretty evident in his one day game that his peak SR these days is about 110.
Dude was striking at over 80 today. Why would Australia be bothered about Taylor meandering to a personal milestone?
They are in no rush to bat are they?
