Australia has always been flat. It's just that certain bowlers can rely on the bounce alone to enhance their natural attributes to get cricket.

That, and Australian teams are generally good at bowling.
Add that touring batting lineups aren't so adept at dealing with the extra bounce to start with...

Turns out my 3-400 at stumps prediction after learning Aust won the toss was a touch optimistic.

Warner will probably only get one more crack at England so hard to know if he can dominate there, but he's now showing he can make Daddy hundreds. If he can perform in India he'll be complete.

Fair play to Warner, as cricinfo rightly points out, just 2 plays and misses in scoring over 250 is almost unprecedented.

conditions in England are the worst conditions for his style of play but he still did grind out the runs over there which is important. Should have turned atleast couple of those 50's into hundreds though

Warner probably entering a period now that will define him as a cricketer.

Hayden will still be considered by most as the better opener, if Warner keeps up what he's doing now he can change that.

He was outrageously good today. Hope he gets his 300* tomorrow and keeps going.

Smith should take Waugh's example and just let Warner bat for as long as he can. See if he can reach Hayden's best and Aus stick 700+ on the board.

You may as well be the team scoring the runs while the deck is offering nothing.
Will they let him go for Hayden? I mean, I don't remember at the time but at least in hindsight letting Hayden go past 334* was deeply unpopular.

Tubby and Clarke both stopped short, would they do the same with Davey?

If Warner can turn his ok tour of England into an excellent tour next time then he ought to be ahead. Hayden didn't get remotely close to what he did in SA.

It'd be a ridiculously early declaration in horrible bowling conditions if they did. We're talking not long after lunch on Day 2 in 38 degree heat.

I've never understood the aggressive declaration in the first innings. Australia should be happy to bat out at least to tea tomorrow. As a captain I'd be happy to bat out day 2, save for maybe a handful of overs at the end.

This is by far the easiest this pitch will be to score runs on, why let your opponents dig in to your lead when this is the case? Take advantage of the nice conditions while they're there, then bowl once the pitch has 150+ overs of wear on it.

two days of batting is an over kill. I'd put them in half an hour before tea and by the time Aust should be around 650.

Although 750 would be fun. Immense scoreboard pressure
