Being serious, which one is/was better. Warner or Hayden?

Got very similar records average wise and hundreds per match ratios. Both destructive and both split opinion among fans.
ATM Hayden for sure, he has the more complete record. But having watched both, Warner strikes me as being more 'complete'. Hayden was always circumspect against the swinging ball -as he should have been- and took a while till he figured out how to survive high quality spin.

Warner tho, just looks at complete ease no matter whom he bats against. It's scary really. He used to throw his wicket away, so you could count on him going boom-boom-bust. But now he seems to have added this new steel to his batting that makes him quite a dangerous prospect.

It will be interesting to see what chinks develop in his armour when he slips out of form, or if any bowlers can work him out...but going as he has atm, I can see him finishing with a career average of 50-55 if not higher. Which is ****ing amazing for an opening batsman.

He'd cop all kinds of **** from the crowd, but you couldn't think of a better option for a one-off test at the Waca than Ronchi.

But yeah, agree with Moss that McHesson will stay loyal to Craig and Neesham. As Flem has been eager to point out, they've produced rubbish showings before (probably not quite this bad, but still pretty awful in some cases) and turned it around in quick order. And McHesson are big on selection loyalty - they persisted with Peter Fulton waaaaaaaay after it was obvious that things weren't going to work out, and finally only binned him when there was a guy averaging about 80 in FC cricket to take his place.

Reckon if Southee's carrying any discomfort going forward then he should sit out the remainder of the series. Yeah it'd be a disaster from the point of view of this series, but you don't **** around with back injuries and Southee is too damn important to this team's long term prospects.

Does NZ have any series coming up as big as this current one tho?

Probably worth risking Southee for a win here, rather than preserving him to play teams like WI and SL.

We've got the return series v Aus on home soil in February. Southee's presence might actually make a difference in that one.

Australia for the return two-test series in Feb/March. I'd say that's big enough!

Yea then probably better to ensure he's fit and raring to go for that.

NZ need to lift their game up massively if they want to stay competitive in this series tho.

there's one difference though. the age warner is now is the age hayden was when he scored his second ton. warner's up to 14
Yeah but that was partly because you guys had such a brilliant team for so long and it was so hard to get into it.

Their records are both amazing and I have no doubt had Hayden been playing now his run rate would have been similar to Warner's now given the T20 and all that which only arrived towards the end of Hayden's career.

Let him lead the scoring charts in a world cup with a broken toe and we'll see.:p

Massive Hayden fan but Warner seems to have Sehwag's scoring rate with better technique. Wouldn't be surprised if he finishes as one of Australia's all time great test openers. Long way to go yet and things might not work out but looks promising tstl.

Matt the bat has 8500 runs. Davey train is yet to crack 4000 so its Matt the bat for now

Been watching some highlights. Got to say Warner seems to like Burns hell of lot more than Rogers.

Watling's odds getting pretty long there. Maybe because he's the one guy who potentially will try to stonewall.

Apparently Burns is a massive carrots fan..what stimulating mid-pitch conversations they must be. 'Hey Davey, I like carrots - how good are carrots?' 'Yeah man, and turtles, how good are turtles?'

I think Warner's efforts against SA indicate he'll end up better overall. I just get the feeling he'll get the hang of slower decks and perform in India and WI as well as stop throwing it away when he gets on top in England.
