Rooney is a waste of space, not only is he utterly washed up, he is basically leading the line when it should be Martial who is playing out of position to accomodate him. Its astonishing how blind LVG is to this guy.
Yes especially from a England perspective his form to start this season has been worrying, although I retain hope he will come back before seasons ends and silence critics which throughout the course of his career generally have been extra harsh about him.

I thought with Martial coming and starting so unexpectedly superbly he would just play Wazza in the "hole" - so its strange that LVG still has him leading the line even though that tactic worked over the weekend vs Everton.

He has a history of slow starts, so I think LVG is praying that he will come good soon. He played ok against Everton, but it was a rare good performance this season. That hat trick against a very poor Brugge side has saved him from a lot of criticism. The media from what I seen haven't been to harsh on him over the last year or so, heck Gareth Crooks said this the other day:laugh::laugh:

"Herrera is very fortunate to have such an accommodating captain as Wayne Rooney, who has waited patiently for him and other new arrivals to come to terms with Louis van Gaal’s new system, often to Rooney’s detriment," Crooks said .

Today (21st October 2015) is apparently "Back to the Future Day". On the day that they travelled from - 21st October 1985 - the League table showed Manchester United 10 points clear after 11 wins and 2 draws from the first 13 games. They still finished behind Liverpool and Everton in third place. Admittedly this info is useless, but it's been a long day.

To be fair I think Crooks I think he probably could be onto something with that theory cause I've heard the match of day and skysports guys sort of suggest something like that when discussing Rooney's form this season - just not sure how plausible it is.

If only that were true. We finished fourth - West Ham came third.

LOL Crooks. That's a comment tailor-made to piss me off.

Another one to add to my list of common excuses for washed up strikers.

Cottee and McAvennie were a bit good that season.

Hard to believe a side can win their opening 10 games and not finish in the top 3 like United did.
Yeah, I think that - for all the nostalgia of the Moore-Hurst-etc teams of the '60s, that season was the closest West Ham ever came to winning the League.

After 15 games United had won 13 and drawn two. We then won just nine of our remaining 27 games and continued to freefall in the early part of the following season to the point that just over a year after that extraordinary winning run we sacked our manager.

His replacement worked out ok, mind.

This didn't merit a yellow card tonight:

Livingston manager on radio last night:

We've got to remember here, there is (sic) two players involved in this. Kieron Gibbons is a young, talented Scottish football player who has signed for a Scottish club. Nathan Oduwa is an English footballer who has not signed for a Scottish club. So we are pulling someone...we are dragging someone over the coal who is one of our own, who is a player who can possibly play for Scotland in the future...(interrupted)
I'm convinced there's a racial element to this. Oduwa seems to be fair game because he's got a bit of skill and likes showboating. I hate Scottish football.

C'mon, just because the nice people on TV say it, it doesn't mean its true. It doesn't take much viewing to see he's been poor, and its nothing to do with formation, teammates etc, unless he's been specifically told to take 2 extra touches in front of goal and get tackled by defenders when he should be putting them away without thinking. He's horridly out of touch in front of goal - it doesn't matter what's going on behind, when he's leading the line his job is to get those shots on target, and he isn't.

I wonder if the contract Moyes gave him has a stipulation about playing regularly. Would make a lot of sense.

Surely the Utd board wouldn't stand for that? It's always been the mantra no man is bigger than the club, and thus I can't see them letting a player basically dictate his starting chances.

I don't believe my post questioned or debated this.

England are a quicker, stronger and more athletic side without Wayne Rooney - Telegraph

Not a bad England team. Although once fit in time for Euro's I'm still leaning more towards a 4-4-2 diamond with Carrick sitting deep instead of Wilshre, Rooney/Sturridge up front and Cahill/Stones defensive pair

The left-back situation is wide open now that Shaw is injured and might not recover in time & Baines still recovering - not much between between Bertrand, Gibbs, Rose, Cresswell - that will come down to who gets more minutes this season I guess.

Your post stated you thought Crooks could be onto something and you'd heard the MoTD/Sky folks say similar. I state that all it takes is watching Rooney play to show its totally wrong. So either your post does question/debate the point, or you ventured the viewpoint whilst also supporting the complete opposite.

How can you post something that supports a viewpoint, then say you don't question the counterargument?
