Australian test selection thread 2015/16

Bird picking up injuries is the most frustrating. He is supposed to be the stable one.

Faulkner is such a wonderful pick to be had as a backup. Hard to imagine Cummins even lasting a full test at the moment, the way his body responds to cricket.

Disappointing but it does highlight that adding him to the Ashes squad was a bit premature.
It's friggin' ridiculous and the whole thing is an absolute disgrace

Only thing I'm surprised about is that Patto isn't in the same boat

Wonder whether anyone at CA will be held accountable LOL

Poor Cummins. Really hope Faulkner gets a game though and he steps up, quite excited about that selection.

The frustration with "Project Cummins" is that in the fours years since he played the test match in SA he has been under the "care " of CA .

Supposedly the best medical attention, rehabilitation program and coaching.

And then this injury

If this is the best the CA can do then it isnt working,

the result has been exactly what they have been trying to avoid.

As Social said will anyone at CA be accountable for this ?

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Jason Gillespie too. Heavily injury-prone prior to 25, stable afterward and still super fast.
According to a Cricinfo speed stats page Dizzy hit 150kph+ a few times, something which I did not remember and surprised me somewhat. I remember him being quick but more low 140s quick. I guess time messes with your memory pretty heavily...

Brah it's not an exact science lmao

It's not "someone's fault" that he developed a stress fracture nor is it necessarily any failing of the "program" or the people he's been under the care of

Interesting. Early dizzy was one of the quickest bowlers in the world on his day, though you're right later on in his career (post-injuries) early 140s was about his limit.

And how different people remember things. I always think of Dizzy as a 145+ bowler, but seeing you've said that you thought he was a touch slower I guess he didn't bowl every spell at that speed

It's simple. You don't pick bowlers who haven't played half a season of first class cricket. For the side's benefit and for theirs.

Cummins has played 86 matches with 34 of them Internationals for Australia and he is just 22, The injuries are a worry, but not as bad as some might say.

How many fast bowlers have bowled at the professional level, with success, at 150km/h, in their early-20s without breaking down regularly?

It happens. A lot. Then bowlers mature and start being more stable

The level of injuries sustained by Cummins is not abnormal for a young quick, he is simply unfortunate that these breakdowns are occuring in the public eye. There are so many precedents of young quicks having 3, 4, 5 major injury setbacks early on, only to have highly successful careers.

It doesn't matter where he was playing, be it grade cricket, Bangladesh or the mad scramble that is the Matador Cup, young quicks don't stay on the field long.

The point is that even with all the medical and coaching support he has had, he still gets injured when bowling.

Is there no alternative to getting injured?
