Clarke clearly didn't read McCullum's quote about being aggressive
He missed the 'earn the right' bit.Clarke clearly didn't read McCullum's quote about being aggressive
If faulkner was this good it would make him in the top 5 all rounders of all timeA number 8 averaging over 30 with the bat, and possibly getting closer to 40 over time with continued improvement, while averaging under 30 with the ball and taking wickets is immensely valuable to a side. Immensely.
Yes, but you have to appreciate the value of a bowling all rounder first, which your post to me indicates that you do.If faulkner was this good it would make him in the top 5 all rounders of all time
IIRC, the top 5 after Edgbaston was:One stat I found interesting yesterday was that Root was the leading run scorer heading into the match, but the next three were Australians, despite being behind 2-1 in the series. That to me demonstrates the benefits of a deep batting line up with a player like Ali batting at 8.
ESPNcricinfo @ESPNcricinfo
Clarke on the shot that got him out: "I was thinking if he [Broad] pitches it up I'm going to hit it as far as I can"
i don't even
This is the thing, McCullum plays like a lunatic because apparently in his own words "he trusts his defense now" which means he can dial it back like he did in the 300, the 50 odd in the test we won against England etc.Clarke clearly didn't read McCullum's quote about being aggressive
My surmising of the thought process leading to the quote.Surely there must be some more context around that Clarke quote. Was that another quote you posted dan or was that just your own surmising of what he was thinking?
Oz returns from 4/5/6 have been deplorable (272 runs from 18 innings @ 15) so as soon as we lose our 2nd wicket we become 5 downIIRC, the top 5 after Edgbaston was:
Rogers - 385
Smith - 354
Root - 313
Warner - 269
Bell - 191
If you exclude Lords the top 5 coming into TB were:
Root - 295
Bell - 179
Rogers - 163
Ali - 151
Warner - 148
It's certainly been Root's Ashes and our batting depth to 8 has been a saving grace really. Its brought up some uncomfortable issues. Who is the best opener in England? They have tried to use Bell at number 3 but he got out for 1 again. Is Stokes good enough to bat 6? Is Buttler good enough to bat 7? Ali's looked better this series.
It was a SKY TV stat, so it may well have been live at the point in the match, after Root had already scored runs. Either way, it was one England batsman in the top 4 run scorers, and three Australian with England winning the series.IIRC, the top 5 after Edgbaston was:
Rogers - 385
Smith - 354
Root - 313
Warner - 269

No, dropping Cookie from the ODI team was a career and captaincy saving move. I think almost everything he's touched has turned to gold since. Still gutted about the Mitch Marsh drag on at Lords (which I called at the start of the over) after improving his top score against Aus in England by 1...Do you still want Cook sacked? @CC
My surmising of the thought process leading to the quote.
You weren't far wrong.“I thought if he pitches it up I’m going to hit it as far as I can,” he said. “I watched guys trying to defend. The better the bowling the more aggressive you have to be. Live by the sword you die by the sword. Guys were getting out blocking all around me which is why I tried to be a aggressive as I could.”
