It's all very confusing. Where does "in control" start and when does it end? I mean, sheesh, Gibbs had it safe as a house and only lost control after he decided to throw it up to celebrate.

The last part is not true at all though, can't grass it while it's in your hand and diving down, quite clearly. That's how the rule is always applied.

No the rule is fine because once player has control it is a catch whatever happens to ball.
