Ball can touch the ground after the catch is completed obviously. Reasonable in this case to say he was still taking the catch but if say a fielder catches the ball and then falls to the ground and it touches the ground while in their hand that's out IMO.
safe to say it's another of cricket's ambiguous somewhat ambiguous rules
