***Official*** English Domestic Season 2015

Seems like an incredibly clean hitter of a cricket ball. Smashed Plunkett at the end of the innings, was a seriously good knock.

Great chase and fantastic win. Doubt we challenge for title this year but winning momentum helps all comps.

van de Merwe signs for Somerset next year. With him and Dockrell back, no need for Rehman and they can use the overseas signing to strengthen the batting (or perhaps grab a 'keeper).

1. M Trescothick *
2. T Abell
3. J Myburgh
4. J Hildreth
5. T Cooper
6. J Allenby
7. R van de Merwe
8. P Trego
9. M Bates +
10. L Gregory
11. C Overton

+ Dockrell, Groenewald, J Overton and an overseas player.

What's the NZ schedule for the next English summer? They might grab Ronchi again or, in a move that would make me a very happy Dan indeed, they might be able to snag themselves a Watling.

Kent 99 all out at the Oval, will be challenging Leics for the wooden spoon this year it seems.

Four cheap wickets for Batty and eight in the match on debut for Curran Minor.

I think Buttler, Bairstow and Billings are all much of the sameness. All poor wicketkeepers with not much between them. Think there is an opportunity there for whoever works really hard on their wicketkeeping. Buttler will be in 2 (and possibly 3 in time) teams regardless of how good a wicketkeeper he is because he'll play as a batsman if he's not keeper, but the other two need every advantage they can take to get a long term position in the team.
So who is the best wicket-keeper present at the moment in England? ( No Foster / Jones please! )

Honestly still is James Foster but if you're looking for younger player in the first division I've heard good things about Michael Bates, who's been the only player I can remember making one-day sides on the strength of his keeping alone.

Among those who have been involved in internationals this side of the industrial revolution, Steve Davies still exists

Northamptonshire will let David Willey take a step up for £50,000 | Sport | The Guardian

Interesting. Not sure moving to a first division club per se will bring him any closer to international honours. Imo Willey needs to add a bit of pace. If he could become a mid 80's swinger who can bat a bit he'd have a decent chance of making the test team. At present his bowling is a little too pedestrian and as soon as the ball stops swinging extravagently he'd becomes extremely hittable. Will have a lot of suitors you'd imagine as someone who plays 3 formats and can bat and bowl.

Shame for Northants. They're just starting to get the makings of a decent balanced squad.

lol rashid not fit to play for England but available for Yorkshire this weekend. You don't get many opportunities to play test cricket and that's one big chance for Rashid gone. Probably won't be looked favourably upon.

An absolute shower of ****e t20 team for a long time now.

Yeah, seems extraordinary. Few of the journalists have made a similar point.

Maybe harsh as the county game started 2 days after the test. Depends on the injury, I suppose.

I went to The Oval last night to see the 2020 game against Somerset. The highlights were a pretty good hundred from Roy and an outstanding catch by Ansari to remove the dangerous Cooper. Also interesting to see the Currans operating. Young Sam looks pretty sharp for a 17 year old, but also pretty hittable in this form of the game, as his natural left arm delivery was inviting a swing of the arms outside off stump. His two wickets flattered him a bit. Older sibling Tom bowled tidily.

The bad news for grecian is that Somerset were woeful. Jamie Overton dropped two pretty straightforward catches, the first of which was when Roy hadn't made many. His bowling was pretty ordinary too, so there wasn't much evidence why he's on the fringe of the England one day squad.

Briggs in the Hampshire squad but dropped in favour of the rookie leggie Mason Crane.

Essex going with their nth spinner of the season who isn't Panesar. I make it Ravi Patel, Liam Dawson, Greg Smith and Nijaar have all played as spinners since Monty last played. A sad state of affairs for Monty. Hope he can turn it around.
