Not a bad side, not convinced that Coles or Northeast will be anything but decent county performers, the fact you are picking Abell and Hales show how awful our opening options are at the moment, Mitchell might be worth a shout. T curran definitely deserves a place I think, exciting talent and has definitely surpassed his Surrey team-mate Dunn.
Hales deserves the chance at least. Has tightened up a bit and scored a decent amount of runs at the start of this season and don't think he has done an overseas 4 day tour with the lions. Not sure he's got the brains to transfer between formats but they need to keep their options open at the top of the order. Abell is inexperienced but everything I've heard of him suggests he's really well organised and that he will churn out runs.

Coles is capable of bowling mid 80s and continues to pick up lots of wickets. Leader of attack etc. Still capable of playing for England imo if he continues to slim down.

Northeast agreed I'm less sure off and he's been more prolific in one day cricket in recent time but he looks to have a decent game. It's tough to know where some of the second div bats are at because the wickets are so bad and bowlers tend to be of the medium pace dobber variety - and their teams tend to be struggling. The likes of Northeast, Westley, Keogh, Burns, Bell-Drummond haven't exactly set the first class scene alight but look alright. It's not like a lot of second division overseas bats score a load of runs (Cosgrove, Ryder etc). Think it's only right that the selectors have a look at the odd one each year. Think with the lions you want to keep giving opportunities to different players in different conditions. Never know when someone will develop.

I've seen a fair bit of Mitchell and imo he's just too limited especially against spin. Borthwick's a fair call - He's done a fair few lions and performance squad tours but none really as a frontline bat.

I'd probably take Bell-Drummond as well. His numbers don't deserve it but ton against the Aussies + he just looks like a player (I know that is awful reasoning but sometimes a bolter or two is worth it).

Is Hales opening at the moment though? Last time I checked he was batting 3 for Notts?

The middle brother is a pretty decent left handed batsman.

Not attached to a County atm as far as I'm aware but is pretty well organised and hits it crisply - especially off his legs.

Hell of a day, look like we have a chance at a unlikely win tomorrow but not counting chickens with our batting line up.

Bairstow is a real untidy keeper. England missed an opportunity giving him the gloves when Buttler was injured. Should have gone to Billings.

Gale really shouldn't be playing limited overs cricket for Yorkshire. Not dynamic enough to open. Wastes the powerplay and doesn't make up for it later. Yorkshire don't have a whole range of options now but even before when all the England players were available he'd open.

The new Hollioakes? Sam bowled Denly with his fourth ball in first-class cricket. Speedy elevation for the lad who only made his T20 debut recently.

Don't know what's up with Balcombe, just a handful of games for the seconds this year.
And like the Hollioake's, they aren't English.

Sam Curran born in Northampton TBH, but other than that, cretinous point.

Oh and agree with Cabinet on Bairstow's 'keeping, think he very much benefits from not being on TV as much as Buttler. The Yorkies that keep on claiming he's a better wicket-keeper really just can't be watching the same player.

I think Buttler, Bairstow and Billings are all much of the sameness. All poor wicketkeepers with not much between them. Think there is an opportunity there for whoever works really hard on their wicketkeeping. Buttler will be in 2 (and possibly 3 in time) teams regardless of how good a wicketkeeper he is because he'll play as a batsman if he's not keeper, but the other two need every advantage they can take to get a long term position in the team.

Just flicked on the T20 and Whiteley has just started and boy does he give it a whack. Just smashed Maxwell down the ground for a massive six. Seems to have an excellent record in T20, anyone seen a lot of him? Any good?
