Cook has lost his mind, like GIMH. Took the new ball 1 over late to give Ali one, and then gave the 8th over with 2nd new ball to Ali again.

One dropped chance in so many overs is far for being feared.
I still don't get how one disappointing days play changes whether or not he should be feared. You also get that the type of crickets who are often described in such way tend to be more inconsistent than others right?

What an absolute ****heap, what happened to that ***y pitch when those nice NZ lads showed up?

Seriously would it be too much to ask to produce a surface where nicking a 9 over old ball presents a chance?

**** deck but you gotta get the job done. Fair play to the Aussies.

Ball still new so hoping we can remove these two early tomorrow and then try and restrict Oz to 500ish. We then put on 650, declare at the start of day five and are on the golf course by tea that day, having bowled out the crime for 82.

If you don't place money on this then you must hate life

Stokes should never be feared by the Australians. He's a decent and talented cricketer, makes his contribution here n there - but not one to be feared of. One day's play doesn't change that; but reinforces that belief.

Uppercut was right. Crime is a great nickname.

Much like in Cardiff I don't necessarily mind the pitch being flat or even a bit slow, I'm a big fan of variety in pitches in general. But the lack of carry is just bad for cricket IMO. Ball needs to carry to the slips off an edge, the short ball needs to be actual option etc. Not sure how much that can be controlled but it definitely sucks to see the ball not carrying through on day 1 for the second test in a row.

That said I'm always a bit wary of people talking up how flat a pitch is when only one team has batted on it. Can sort of see Hazlewood and Starc doing okay, there were some reasonable spells of bowling today, and some signs of turn. We'll see I guess.

Cardiff was fine. No bounce but had something in it for the bowlers even on the first day.

This has nothing along with the fact that a Lords pitch doesn't break up as much as others.

We'll see after England have a go but if its a total snore fest I hope they get a big fine.
