Well it's how quickly they can score. Like someone said before, if Marsh comes on when Australia are at 400, then it could be carnage

Clarke tends to declare earlier than you'd think in the first innings. Think this match will be the same. On tablet so can't get links to examples

Oh i agree he does tend to go for the early declarations.

Its just that this looks like it could be a runway for 5 days so maybe he'll only bat once.

Australia have played absolutely superbly here, I don't think we have bowled that badly, and happy we have kept the run rate relatively in check but Aus win and draw basically only two results in it now. Hope we can go big first time around, take minimum 150 overs out of the game.

I think England bowled pretty badly in the first hour and that had a fairly big impact on the tone of the day. Wood's first spell in particular was very poor, when Anderson was struggling and he needed to bowl well. They definitely bowled well from the time Warner got out until tea though, and are understandably a bit worn out now. The key was the start with the new ball in the morning and taking chances in that middle session. Didn't really take those (small) opportunities, and Rogers and Smith have been superb.

edit: Ground fielding has been really good throughout the day as well.

Ben Stokes' bowling figures today

BA Stokes 13 0 55 0

This is supposedly the guy Australia should have been very 'fearful' of before the test.
Truly one of the worst days of test cricket a young all-rounder has ever had against a good side.

Not a chance Clarke declares at 450. It's a great batting pitch, Australia are as well giving Starc a bit more rest and watch England run their bowlers into the ground.

Bells drop and the missed half chances from Moeen were moments that needed to be seized upon with a pitch like this.
