Time for bed. Well done England, far too good for us this test! Bowled exceptionally well. Hopefully we regroup and make a game of the 2nd.

97 has come up a few times. Pretty sure we haven't lost a series lead in the Ashes since then. So take that as an omen whichever way suits you tbh

Yeah no way. The crime side is just no where near as good this time. Not saying we will walk it or anything but it is just not similar at all.

This was really a horrible game for us - sloppy bowling in the first dig, reckless batting and throwing away starts and that atrocious drop by Haddin. Hope we regroup at Lord's.

Nah, Wood is legit. Watson's FC average is 42, he ain't a gun.

Mental strength is also more important 'talent' than ball striking in test matches.
Exactly why I say that Watto is a mental pygmy

Guy only has 20 fc tons and a ridiculous number of test 90s

2 fc matches in lead up to this test were typical - pummel bowlers everywhere before getting himself out and hence the 42 average

n.b. I am not defending him and think he has been given waaaaaay to many chances for someone of his output

Watson's international career will have ended today. Been a fan of his but I think he has become a little lethargic in the last couple of years. At least he ended the ODIs as a World Cup winner, in which he played played his part. He is one of those guys who should have had a batting average in the low to middle 40s and bowling average around 30. A batting average of 35 and bowling of 33 is pretty decent but he hasn't been a big match winner in the mould of even someone like A Flintoff, who is actually a lesser player than Watson but made more of his career.
