Watson isn't really an all-rounder though is he,/all very well talking about averages, but he takes 1.5 wickets a match. He's a batsman that bowls. In Tests anyway.

BTW, England are doing well, but surely they must still be trying to fit Gregory into the side, only makes sense too.
Last few years that's true but he was more of a real bowling threat up until say 2011, and was a pretty significant part of Australia's attack when he was fit to bowl. But yeah the last few seasons he just blocks up an end to give other bowlers a rest. For instance between 2008 and 2011 he took 54 wickets with a SR of 55.1, last 4 years it's 19 wickets with an SR of 122.5 in a similar number of matches. Reflects the changing role IMO, as well as a decline in ability.

Healy's attempts at analysis are just so good. Earlier he listed the percentages of deliveries that Broad landed in the "good" "full" and "short" lengths, adding up naturally to 100, and concluded that he was so successful as a bowler because he got every ball to land in these areas.
!

You need to have played at a very high level to understand the game like that.

This reminds me a bit of Lord's 2009. After Flintoff took the wickets to decide the game Johnson hit some really nice shots for a 60 that meant nothing whatsoever.

He was still pants with the ball all series ftr

Predict that Johnson's demise will come with the new ball; he'll try to drive to mid off again and hit it in the air too square and pick out the fielder.

You heard it here first

[08:37] <tigger> if all else fails, use the run cushion and bowl ali and root for a while, give the quicks a break and get to the next new ball quickly?

Guess they took his advice
