***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2014/15

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Baz is an otago man come on

I also gave a lot more weight to test cricket otherwise mason, mcskimming etc would be much closer
Yeah but imo this is more about the provinces than national representation. Baz hasn't crossed the 4 figure mark for FC runs for Otago. My XI is based on efforts and performance for the province, to which McCullum is unfortunate because the more your represent your country in all formats, the less chance you get to play for your home domestic team (in NZ anyway).

Had forgotten how little Baz has actually played for Otago.
A certain person (I think Smudge but can't be sure) put Mallendar in his side last time we did this on the basis he was given an Otago benefit season. I disagreed but there you go anyway. If he were "eligible" he would be a shoo in.

I thought Andrew Jones was a CD man?

And Martin Guptill over Lou Vincent for Auckland any day.
Jones was Wellington all the way. He was a very consistent provincial performer in the years leading up to his call up. Every time you turned on Brian Waddle while driving out to the Mount in the summer Jones and Ervine McSweeney would be having a partnership with Jones on 40 something.

He wasn't always a domestic star. He had mixed success until he started dating a psychologist. They talked at length about mental preparation and he never looked back. Biggest strike hogger known to mankind. I never liked him.

NZT I can see where you're coming from and doing some teams based only on what they did for their province is a cool idea but in a general eleven I don't think it's fair to penalise a province for producing players too good to play for them as often as a domestic only heavyweight.

Thought I'd do this one for Kippax

Central Firebucks, brought to you by forlorn hope

Bevan Congdon (c) | Stewie Dempster | Andrew Jones | Ross Taylor | Martin Donnelly | John R, Reid | Jacob Oram | Ian Smith (wk) | Gary Bartlett | Richard Collinge | Ewen Chatfield

I don't expect the Bartlett inclusion at the expense of Cairns and O'Brien to go down well so here's my logic. While there are more successful and better bowlers than Bartlett, the team already has plenty of medium pace hit the deck pressure builders. Chatfield is the best man for that job with support from Oram, Reid and Congdon. I went with Bartlett to partner Collinge to give the new ball attack extra bite rather than put too much pressure on Collinge to take a bag.

Basically I'm trying to make the team better in reality than on paper.

Edgar, Ryder and Coney were all unlucky not to make the cut as well.

Traditional "We all ****ing hate you" Giants, brought to you by a bank or someone

Graham Dowling | Tom Latham | John F. Reid | Martin Crowe | Stephen Fleming (c) | Nathan Astle | Chris Cairns | Richard Hadlee | Adam Parore (wk) | Shane Bond | Jack Cowie

FMD there's depth to burn in that extended squad.

And of course where would we be without an in-joke XI...

Advanced Agribusiness, brought to you by Fonterra and Waikato Draught

Glenn Turner | Mark Richardson | John Wright | Kane Williamson | Bert Sutcliffe | Brendon McCullum (c) | BJ Watling (wk) | Daniel Vettori | Tim Southee | Neil Wagner | Trent Boult

Again Frank Cameron, Dion Nash and Simon Doull are all very good bowlers who missed out in favour of someone who is better suited to the third seamer role. The lack of a real 5th bowling option means I've gone for latter era Vettori who was perfectly fine at getting wickets with good bowlers in the team with him and Wagner can bowl and bowl and bowl.

Edgar signs up as Wellington coach. Great to have a Kiwi back in charge. Hopefully this means improved local player development. He's got a long hard road ahead of him to turn this bunch of ageing also-rans into a successful team. Fingers crossed.

I just became a Firebirds fan.

I hate to say it, but hopefully Edgar's accrued knowledge of the country's young players via his selection role might mean some sharp recruiting.

What makes you say that. He implied he was pushed out of his selection role and not treated fairly and squarely.
Regimes come and go. Once White / Crocker have had their time and have gone, the new CEO will be bring Bruce in from the cold.

That would be excellent - maybe he could lure Leopard down from CD. I guess Wellington will definitely be needing some new fast bowlers. I'm trying to think of some of the under 17 & 19 players from Wellington he has in mind here.

Edgar is well versed with players from all six major associations, and was heartened by what he saw from the Wellington under-17 and under-19 sides last summer. He wants a wider squad of around 25 all buying in, and sees his style as a man manager who won't rant and rave but give the players the opportunity to better themselves.

One of those U17 boys plays for our club on occassion. The young spinner Aitken. When he gets taller he will be handful. As it is he seems to know what he is doing by bowling in good areas.

2015/16 transfer news.

Otago's set to sign Anaru Kitchen, Brad Wilson and a young Auckland tear away quick, who I wasn't told the name of.

Jesse Ryder won't be returning.
